Here is the Reds current situation. They are 40-39 and have 13 games left before the All-Star break. If they go 7-6 in these next 13 their record would be 47-45. That means they have 70 games left in the season after the All-Star break. Most playoff teams reach the magic number of 90 wins to do so. That means after the All-Star break the Reds will have to go 43-27 in the last 70 to reach 90 wins. That means in the final 70 games they have to win 61.4% of their games. Not impossible but surely going to be tough. These Reds are sure not making it easy on themselves. They better get their acts together and soon, time is running out. Does anybody honestly think this .500 team has a chance to make the playoffs? Oh and by the way Walt still says that they like Janish and their shortstop situation a lot so we can quit dreaming of Cozart getting a shot anytime soon.

If they go 10-3 in the next 13, then they only need to go 40-30 to get to 90 wins. One hot streak changes all those numbers very quickly.

And we seem to be assuming that it's going to take 90. This could very well be a division where 84 or 86 wins does the job.

I love your optimism but this team looks anything but capable of winning 10 of 13.

Not likely, over the last 10 years the worst wild card record out of the National league was the 2006 Dodgers @ 88-74. More likely that somebody wins more than 90 than less.

2010 - Atlanta 91-71

2009 - Colorado 92-70

2008 - Milwaukee 90-72

2007 - Colorado 90-73

2006 - Los Angeles 88-74

2005 - Houston 89-73

2004 - Houston 92-70

2003 - Florida 91-71

2002 - San Francisco 95-66

2001 - St Louis 93-69

They really need to run off a good 10 game stretch. I feel like they are going to have a really good one, or a really bad one in the next month and that will obviously make or break the season.

And I will be incredibly irritated every day we don't have Cozart playing short stop.

The Reds promoted Grandal to AA. If he continues to hit the way he has @ high A what are the Reds plans from a catching standpoint? Imo they may need to take a look at Mesoraco soon to see if he is major league ready or if they think that Grandal will be the man. I have to think there are lots of teams out there that are salivating at the thought of aquiring a good catcher. These are some nice stats for the Red's 2 young catching prospects.

Mesoraco .320 8 HRs 46 RBIs (AAA)

Grandal .294 70 HRs 40 RBIs (Combined high A and AA)

Always interesting to look at the boys in AAA to see how they have been doing lately. As it turns out they have apparently been watching too much of the "Big boys" games and are struggling offensively as well. Here are some of the top player's last 10 game results.

Hermida .364 1 HR 5 RBIs

Sappelt .263 0 HR 2 RBIs

Mesoraco .278 0 HR 5 RBIs

Cozart .227 1 HR 2 RBIs

Alonso .200 1 HR 6 RBIs

Francisco .211 3 HRs 7 RBIs

Dorn .235 4 HRs 8 RBIs

Frazier .182 2 HRs 3 RBIs

Valiaka .235 0 HR 1 RBI

typo only 7 HRs

.351 in June.

He's terrible. Need to just cut him loose and bring up a minor leaguer:sssh::lol:

With the teams they have coming up winning 10 of 13 would be great. Especially if they can go 6-1 or 7-0 against the Cards and Brewers. I think 3-10 is more likely than 10-3 though. I hope I'm wrong.

It doesn't matter how many wins the wild card has. It matters how many wins the NL Central Champion has. The wild card isn't coming from the Central.

It's a good thing people aren't looking at those numbers every day like they do the Reds. We would probably be hearing people say Cozart needs to go back to AA to work on his hitting. And I guess Alonso and Francisco need to be traded out of here ASAP. :D

Janish and Renteria a combined 20/86 (.233) in June. Can Cozart do much worse?

.227 against AAA pitching? Is that worse? Just saying ...
