You're either misunderstanding my position or deliberately misstating it.

 

I said the enrollment was the biggest advantage. I didn't say it was the only one.

By the same token though with such a massive enrollment figure we should have more talented players to choose from in those sports.

 

Not necessarily IMO. Attrition is the key in any sport and depth is not as important the smaller the number of players you need. Thus Trinity may have some outstanding talent in Baseball/Basketball from their talent pool but Smaller School A may have a class coming through that actually has more talent but does not have enough to compete at a high level in football but is having a great season for basketball. Clay County always seems tough in basketball but not football. Mason County is very good in football because of key athletes but seems to get hurt by depth. Put them on the hardwood and they are a state power.

It's not the only factor; nor is it the most important.

I honestly think that if you want true competitive balance you need to be willing to move teams around according to success in order to keep the cream of the crop together. I certainly would like to see something like that. I would much rather have a class that includes Highlands, Trinity, St.X, Male, Boyle, Danville, Mayfield, Central and any other perennial title holder. I think that would be a much more competitive class with much more exciting games that would truly take the competition to a level we have not seen in Kentucky. I almost wonder sometimes if it would be beneficial for us to go to a playoff system like Ohio, that way every game matters.

They could've easily petitioned for a move to 6A in 2007, when they were granted a move up to 5A. They could have asked to make a similar move last year, but as far as I know, they didn't.

 

I'm not criticizing Highlands in this at all. I just get tired of people proposing this "super class" of state powers when we could easily have it with schools like Highlands, Boyle County, Lexington Catholic, Bowling Green, etc., all petitioning to move into 6A.
