Bengals Draft Plan???

Every team in the league was scared of Mallet's personality. Without that there is no way he's not a top 15 pick I don't think. I wouldn't want either because I think NFL teams need an Elite QB nowadays, but if forced to choose I'd take Dalton. Dalton seems just as good as any QB in this draft to me. But personally I wouldn't have taken any of them. Next years class will be better.

Next years class might be better. That's a long time from now. I hope the Bengals trade Palmer to an NFC West team for a 1st or 2nd round pick next year.

Mel Kiper just said he thinks the Bengals might have the best draft so far after round 3.

Might? Only way it's not is if Luck and Barkley stay in school IMO. Luck could have went into an old folks home and beat all of the old folks senseless and still been the pick ahead of the guys this year.

I'm not a big inatngibles guy when a weakness is arm strength and height. Especially when it's a QB that throws a little side armed. I'll take the guy that was recruited by Michigan and transferred to an SEC school and put up numbers rather than the guy that beat up on MWC schools. They're putting a ton of trust in Jay Gruden and his system. How many times has he ever scouted for an NFL draft? How do we know he can evaluate NFL talent at a high level with minimum help from scouts? I'm not toally against the pick or taking Green. I just don't think it's all going to work out because the Bengals and Jay Gruden got what he wanted.

Evidently all 32 teams scouted Mallett the same way considering how far he dropped. They all could be wrong but don't criticize a guy for not having evaluated a draft before when all the other scouts said the same thing.

The average height for an NFL QB is 6'3" and Dalton is 6'2". Arm strength isn't great but not poor either. Look at the best QB's in the NFL, accuracy and hard work are the two most important things IMO.

As for the comment about putting a ton of trust in Jay Gruden and his system, would you rather have that or let Mike Brown make EVERY decision?

Yeah Drew Breese certainly struggles. Plus I am sure Jay Gruden didn't get any help or advice from his brother...I will take Character and work ethic all day long at the QB position. History is on my side as well. I would also take Pennington over Leaf...what about you?

Obviously all 32 teams didn't have Dalton ranked second right behind Newton or he wouldn't have been the 5th QB off the board.

I love it how people bring up Brees. Great that's one. Now name me a few more successful QB's Brees height or shorter in the last decade.

I also love it that people bring up Leaf. How about Marino? He had a cocaine problem, loved to party and was a cocky kid in college. Did he turn out ok? We can all name a guy or two to make our point stand up. I think it's pretty obvious teams look for guys taller than Dalton b/c guys Dalton size or smaller struggle. I think it is even more apparent people look for it becasue he was the 5th QB taken. I hope he does great. I'm just not sold on him becasue Gruden loves him. Again, I like the pick. I'm glad it worked out exactly how the Bengals wanted. I just don't think they won the draft because they took a WR in the top 5, a short QB and a LB that people are calling a reach and a project that will help on speical teams.

Ever heard of injuries?

Ever heard of Sam Bradford? Injuries sure hurt him...oh, wait. Only way I think Luck doesn't go #1 is if the team at the top already has a young, good, expensive QB. He's being talked about as the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning. With the advances in the medical field he'd have to get his arm ripped off for a team to be scared off.

Just because Luck goes #1 it doesn't mean next years class will be better. Ever heard of great QB classes struggling?

Obviously all 32 teams werent looking for a QB either. The only teams you can say for sure that didnt have him #2 on their board were the 4 teams who drafted qbs ahead of the bengals. Also I guess the guy that you keep suggesting they should have taken wasnt rated that high on anyones board either since he was what the 7th or 8th QB off the board?

If teams were scared off because they think he parties too much I can't balme them. Just because Jay Gruden thought Dalton was the 2nd best QB in the draft that doesn't mean he is right? He obvioulsy could end up being the best and I hope he is.

Honestly I dont know where Dalton really ranks among this group of qbs but I guess we are going to find out. If it was Bobs offense still I think they would have taken Mallet but think Gruden wanted someone who can move a little better.
