Didn't Anthony Davis' team get beat out fairly early in their playoffs? Plus they got whipped on ESPN in a mid season game. That don't mean much.

 

 

Yeah it doesn't mean much if you don't put stock in a point guard's ability to lead his team properly and put his team in a position to win. Seems like an important characteristic to me.

We'll see. I am not one to say Teague is on a different stratosphere than Hickey just because Teague is ranked highly as a point guard nationwide. Hickey is fast enough to keep up with him and Hickey is a proven winner. Hickey knows how to win. Teague has never won anything. Not even in AAU. He is just a highly decorated high school player. I am not going to act like Teague will destroy Hickey when the only weakness I have seen in Hickey's game is free throw shooting. I have yet to see Hickey fail in person and I don't expect to see him fail on June 10th. Am I biased? Yes, I am. I hope to see Hickey perform exceptionally well and show that once again a kid good enough to play at UK was passed on.

 

Don't get me wrong. I am a Kentucky fan thru and thru and really hope the boys trounce Indiana. I hope for Big Blue Teague is the best. I have seen them both, and would have to agree with the national ratings, Teague is good... real good. Don't expect Teague to score ton's of points as that is not his role on the Indiana team. I will also remind you that everyone thought Brandon Knight wasn't very good after the McDonalds game last year. I think he proved all of his critics wrong with the year he had a UK. Some of these kids already have reached their immediate goal and really try to help teammates and step aside when its an 'all-star' atmosphere. Believe me, Teague is rated high because he is very good.

Davis played for a horrible team in one of the most talent rich areas in the country. Apples and anchovies. Teague has been the PG on several VERY talented teams, and continues to come up empty. The kid is a fantastic talent, but the trend is what it is...

Can't say anything about the tryout as I wasn't there. Can say that Kellen is a much much better player than Gilbert and I don't think you will get an arguement in that outside of a homer. I don't understand the selection criteria but this may be a reflection why Indiana has dominated the series for so long. Some of the players left off the team clearly shows that the coaches didn't like certain aspects of their game because they did not select them by talent.

 

Reading some of your former post, mostly about Scott high would lead one to believe that HOMER is your size sneaker. Jordan Gilbert did nothing this last weekend but show up and will himself onto this team. I do know one thing this fine young man is not deserving of and thats the bullcrap in this thread!

Man, get over it. Why single out someone that made the team? Maybe Gilbert out-played the players that did not make the team? Could that be a possibility? Or did Gilbert have a skillset that the coaches felt they needed? Congratualtions to all the boys that made the team and to those that didn't, I commend your effort.

 

I'm sure some of the kids that didn't try out probably felt that they had nothing to gain except a lot of criticizsm from the so called "experts" on this site and other similar sites if they don't perform up to everyone's expectations.

Anderson County coach Glen Drury, coach of the Kentucky boys’ team, was impressed with the way Rogers performed during the tryouts.

 

“The young man plays so hard,” he said. “He never takes a play off. During the three sessions (at Louisville), you never found him (taking a play off) even if he was tired. He ran the floor, he still played and he earned a spot by purely just played as hard as he could.”

 

Although most of the invitees rely on their offensive skills during the tryouts, Rogers devised his own scheme.

“If I made the team, I knew I would have to make it by playing defense and rebounding,” he said. “Everyone can score the ball, but when I was working out before we tried out, I was really just focusing on defense and rebounding.”

 

“It’s a fitting end for his (high school) career. He’s a player who wasn’t even a Top 10 player in the (10th) Region, then was Player of the Year in the 10th Region, was player of the game in the first round of the state tournament and ends it as one of the Top 12 players in the state. How much more can you get out of him now?”

They have 5 REgional titles combined and Flynn has won 3 all in different Regions. I'd say they are well respected as top coaches around the state.

 

There are a lot of excellent coaches in NKY but when you look at the number of Regional titles who else?

You may have missed my later post in this thread. First, I am not attacking the charachter of any player or person as I do not personally know them nor would I attack a High school or college kid for that matter. I will however join in the rating of players, pretty much what most of the threads are about. I think that is fair game. I do believe most arguements on this site are from homers. I have watched Scott play many times the past year because I have enjoyed watching their effort. I would watch Mason a lot more but its simply too far of a drive. Can't tell you how many teams I've watched this year but can honestly say I saw in person at least 13 of the final top 20 teams this season. Lucky to get to do that. Over the past few years I have watched Scott and Mason Co. play and have felt that Scotts PG was the better player. I will also say that Mason has clearly had one of the better post players in the Region the past several years. As far as rating players; I said I wasn't at the tryouts but can tell you that my opinion is there were more talented players left off the roster than placed on it. Thus my quote from Coach Cal "I'll take talent over experience anyday". But you did not read me attacking the kids charachter or nature. You sound a lot like Bobby Knight the other day.

Certainly agree they are both fine coaches with great track records, but they don't seem to pop up very high in the multitude of "Best Coaches in NKY" threads that have graced these pages over the years??

IMO several coaches in NKY have done "more with less" than these two, although they're certainly respected for their accomplishments. To say no one in the state is in the league with these two would seem to be misguided IMO!!

Good points and I think there are coaches that just need more time to get those titles.

Here is the Ky all star roster from the Ky/Ohio game. Only 4 players different from that roster. Ohio came back and beat this team. Will those 4 players make a huge difference? We all know that the Indiana All Star team is much better than the Ohio team. What were the players stats from the Ohio/Ky all star game?

I doubt that sincerely and if that is indeed the case I hope they gain some mental toughness before they move on life.

Congratulations to all those that made the team. I am sure we can debate all the selections/non-selections right up until tip-off, but we should be happy for those selected and for who had the opprotunity to try out.

 

IMO - Gilbert was a great addition to the team.

I agree with MNCM 100 percent. Congratulations to all those who got to try out and to those picked for the team. Im happy to see a nice tenth region presence on the team.

 

Ive seen a lot of Gilbert and Smith; Id give the slight edge to Gilbert overall and that is no offense to Smith at all. Both are very good point guards.
