The 8th region refs in Boone vs Holmes were terrible. Not on the calls aspect, as those are judgements and can be argued for years. Boone was better and deserved to win. But calling the foul on the wrong player TWICE is inexcusable. Holmes knew it, Boone knew it, the whole neutral crowd knew it. Happened in BOTH halves. Awful. #15 Holmes is a wing player and the foul occured deep in the paint. Had to make him sit first half. Then it happens again? C'mon guys, get it together.

 

I saw it to, it was terrible. this was the same older ref that did the Championship gm. and once again he did not have a good day. terrible actually.

The 9th Region tournament should be held in a High School Gym, period. I'll take the trade off of a comfortable front row seat for "bleacher-butt" smack in the middle of a bunch of sceaming students any day of the week. I know it probably never will go back to that because it's more about making money than it is about the experience.

I am old school as well, but there something to be said for not having to clear the gym between games on the semi final nights and it was very nice not having to worry about being turned away at the door or having to get in line an hour ahead of time to make sure you get in for the game. The atmosphere today at the boys' final was unbelievable. I know that is not the case at all the games at BOK. I also think there is an advantage for the teams advancing having played in the arena atmosphere when it comes to playing at Rupp or Diddle.

What are you considering the back side?

 

Back by Skyline and the ball field. Either come off 27 by Kroger or up John's Hill off AA/Rt9.

This was a real plus for the Girls. I don't remember this big a crowd at a girls final. That's great for the girls. I thought the atmosphere was great, especially today. The school's are guaranteed $65,000 whether one person shows or not. I think the AD's no what they are doing. That's a deal no HS can make. BOKC makes it's $$ after the $65,000 and they pay refs, staff, etc.

The 1st Ryle - Boone game last month at Ryle High School in front of a SRO crowd of more than 2500 fans is what High School basketball is all about, IMO.:thumb:

 

Then again there is nothing like playing on your home court, getting dressed in your own locker room, knowing how the ball bounce on the floor in certain areas, or how soft or hard the rims are! I mean, who wants to play a game where it's actually a home game for your team? Oh yea, the teams with the big gyms that used to host the tourney do! Yea that fair to everybody else who is playing!

I keep hearing people throwing this $10k number around for live video feed. Has anyone ever watched an NKU game on TV. I wouldnt pay five bucks for that quality. I guess its the quality of the cameras or something. Maybe thats why they want $10k to buy a new video camera. LOL.

So Dixie gets $8200 for winning the tourney.

NCC gets $8200 for winning the girls tourney and $4968 for the boys' runner-up.

The revenue differences are huge.

 

5 regions had combined boys/girls revenue of $80k+.

 

2 had less than $50k.

I sorta understand the if the video feed had anything to do with LIVE FEED. It could take away from the attendence some. But why in the world can't they run these games on ICN2 or ICN6 whatever on tape delay. Tonight was one of the greatest games ever played in the 9th Region and possibly the greatest ever. Id love to watch that again this week some time. A darn shame that will not happen.

I like the venue, but from a fan experience leaves a whole lot to be desired.

They could sell some t-shirts, programs, and just do a little more to enhance the fan experience.

With the money that is guaranteed no way they turn it down playing at the BOK.

That is why a lot of people from the 9th was so impressed with the way the 10th ran their tourney there two years ago. At halftime they could do soemthing, Look at what they do at the Sweet 16 during the time outs and at the half at what could be done.

No, that $10,000 is so you can have the right to telecast, even a delayed telecast, you still have to bring your own camera's ect for that 10 K.

Ron Matrick of Holmes and his staff do an outstanding job of running this event for the Ninth and he nor does his staff get the pats on the back that they deserves in doing this.

 

Too many would like this and or would like that (and I would like to see it too) but it tougher than you think to get people to volunteer their time now days. Remember it's just not a one or two day event but the tourney runs for almost a week.

 

Heck when I worked the Regional Freshmen Tourney this year I had a ball, but getting there right after work and not getting home until late made for a long, long week.

 

So lets see hands some up in the air to volunteer next year, I am sure Ron would love to have the help! :idunno:

You couple this with the one way in to park and it is a nightmare.

 

Don't want to be a jerk, but I thought I'd point out that there are at least three different ways to get into NKU. Just a suggestion, but if you're worried about traffic in the future...take the Wilder exit and go up the back way on John's Hill road. I'd be you don't run into hardly any going that way and you'll skip the whole round-a-bout.
