From reading this thread I realize that people will complain about anything and everything. It is not perfect people and it never will be. Sure the line was long, but most high school venues only have one entrance (other than Conner) parking is difficult at most high school venues, and clearning the gym was a nightmare. The crowds at BOK were awesome all week, any venue in the 9th would not have been able to accomodate that many guests.

 

And lets not forget, playing in an arena helps prepare our region teams for what they will see at state in regards to floor size and shooting lines.

Don't want to be a jerk, but I thought I'd point out that there are at least three different ways to get into NKU. Just a suggestion, but if you're worried about traffic in the future...take the Wilder exit and go up the back way on John's Hill road. I'd be you don't run into hardly any going that way and you'll skip the whole round-a-bout.

 

 

Used the "back roads" method into and out of NKU all week and had no issues with traffic, access to parking, etc....

I like the venue, but from a fan experience leaves a whole lot to be desired.

They could sell some t-shirts, programs, and just do a little more to enhance the fan experience.

With the money that is guaranteed no way they turn it down playing at the BOK.

 

Agreed. That is the only gripe I have about the tournament being there,

 

They used to make 9th region t-shirts every year for the final 4 and sell them. The front said 9th region tournament with the back listing the teams and roster.

 

BOKC is still a top notch place to hold the region tournament though and if programs and tshirts not being sold are the only complaint, I'd say they're doing something right.

 

I'll give up the little things like that for the huge region championship and semi finals crowds.

The coaches, players and support staff of each team were allowed to attend any and all games! I think the number was 25 tickets for the teams and I think 15 for administrators of the school, meaning AD's, Principal etc.

 

Remember this, the Ninth gets a set amount no matter if one person attends or no one attends!

How so? If it is agreed that all teams get a total of 40 tickets per session (25 for the team and 15 for others in the school)? It's not like a coach or team is showing up and saying I need these 100 people behind me to get in for free.

We (Brossart) recently hosted the 10th Region All "A" Tournament at Regents Hall, complete with program, T-Shirts, a first-class hospitality room, while supplying teams with water and Gatorade for halftime and post-game, and food post-game. We broadcast each of the games over the internet (as did the 9th Region Tournament) and had a professional photographer selling photos from the games at a nominal fee. We had a local VFW Color Guard present the colors for the championship game - all in an effort to host a first-class event. We played one more game than the 9th Region Boys Tournament, due to a play-in game, and ran the tournament over a five day period.

 

While it took some effort and some leg-work we formed mini-committes for each project and pulled it off. Our tournament programs were over-the-top - full-color amd spiral bound - donated by a parent with connections to a major corpoarate entity who "owed her a favor." Selling the programs for $2 each and including $900 worh of advertising, the programs netted $1300, which went to pay for security/NKU staffing for the event. T-Shirts were designed and produced by another. They were very popular - sold for $10 apiece with the tournament logo on the front and team rosters on the rear. Whenever a team hit a three-pointer, a cheerleader from that team threw a T-Shirt into their cheering section. We broke about even on the T-Shirts. A local eatery that our fans frequent stepped up and served as our "corporate" hospitality room sponsor. Parents supplemented the primary foods provided with cookies, cupcakes, veggie plates etc. Our creative hospitality room chairlady added a floral arrangment centerpiece to the room with photos of each team inserted in it, which set it off. The water and gatorade was donated/reduced from a local major superstore and a grocery outliet in the area. Food for the teams was supplied by local fast-food and pizza businesses.

 

The All "A" Tournament rotates in the 10th Region, so we only host it once every five years or so, but perhaps the 9th could rotate the responsibility for "hosting" the event on an annual basis. I too was disappointed that the 9th had no programs. They don't have to be elaborate, Lloyd High School puts out a nice program for their annual LIT - color cover/black and white contents. Even though the 36th District holds their finals on a Saturday night, photos/rosters could be obtained from each of the contenders before hand and could be in the printer's hands on Monday.

 

Much as Ron Madrick is the overall tounament chairman, Mel Webster was the 10th Region "A" tournament chairman. Mel's responsibilities were to supply scorer, announcer, timer, gate-keepers, tend to the officials etc. Our "hospitality committee" did all of the other extraneous things. It couldn't have gone any better for us.

When it is said and done, the boys get 32,500 and the girls get 32,500. For the girls, I believe that is the most in the state, for the boys mid-range. If both the boys and girls go deep in the tournament a school gets quite a bit of money. I believe the 9th is the only region that gives non-participating schools in the region $500 per boys/girls team, essentially $1000 for most of the schools, the exception being gender only schools. I see this as a win-win financially for both, especially when BOKC takes care of the expenses, and gets all revenue above $65,000. Programs and stuff would have to come out of the guaranteed revenue to the Regional schools and it looks like the AD's tried to funnel all of their revenue to all schools. Can't say I blame them. The gamble on BOKC is that if attendance is poor ticket sales, concessions and parking suffer and they lose money. That doesn't seem to be the case, however, thus the win/win. I bet most regions would do this deal if they could. I'm sure the video issue has to do with attendance because BOKC needs people there to make their money. Not saying I like it (video thing), but I can understand why they do it.

I suppose you are right. I guess I was just thinking the parents of the AD shouldn't be getting in free, but if the school can distribute their tickets anyway they feel that is appropriate, who am I to have an issue with it?
