The 8th region refs in Boone vs Holmes were terrible. Not on the calls aspect, as those are judgements and can be argued for years. Boone was better and deserved to win. But calling the foul on the wrong player TWICE is inexcusable. Holmes knew it, Boone knew it, the whole neutral crowd knew it. Happened in BOTH halves. Awful. #15 Holmes is a wing player and the foul occured deep in the paint. Had to make him sit first half. Then it happens again? C'mon guys, get it together.

Good points all around. I think the venue is nice but a few added amenities would make it even better:

1. A program. I would like to know the names, year, and listed height and weight of the players. I would pay for a program. I do everywhere else I go. Not sure if this is a 9th region issue, NKU, BOKC, or what. Just saying it would be nice to have a program.

2. Need a better PA person on the mic. Cannot understand the names. How about first and last names too. Adds to the experience. Enunciate. "goal by Downs, Cooper Downs".

 

and yes, 6:30 start on a weeknight is a must. Add more ticket takers too.

 

I think you will see one (program) next year but the 36th district makes it tough to do.

 

Hard not knowing who all the teams are until late Saturday night, then having the draw on Sunday morning and a program ready by Monday afternoon!

 

I loved it when they had the lady from Dixie do the PA job back in the days prior to BOKC, then again the current Dixie PA Kevin Schwab (went to HS with his Dad) who also does the Florence Freedom games does a great job too but the homer in me would love to see the Mr. Al Hertsenberg do the job!

Have been led to believe that the Ninth has signed or will sign soon a new three year contract to host the Ninth Region Basketball Tournament at the Bank of Kentucky Center.

 

When you hear about what happened in the Sixth and Seventh Regions Friday Night, just be thankful that we in the Ninth play at a venue large enough to hold the crowds.

 

Speaking of crowds, the Ninth Region officials that I spoke to told me that the if the Boys Wednesday and Thursday night games were held at one of the three HS gyms that have hosted the Ninth Region in the past (Holmes, Conner and Ryle) they would have had to turn away a large number of fans. Attendance has been very good for all the games!

 

A tip of Theoldguy Hat to the CovCath, Dixie, HHS, NCC and Villa student bodies who came out to root on their classmates and teams. Just surprising to me how few students from two of the largest schools in NKy (Boone and Ryle) have not come to the games.

 

Was not completely surprised when I saw a CovCath student who I happen to know attending the St. Henry vs. Boone County game with some friends, but when he told me he would be leaving prior to the NDA vs. NCC game I was totally caught off guard for the reason. Seems that NDA had a school dance starting just 15 minutes after the start of their Ninth Region Semi-final game with NCC.

Spoke to a few NDA Basketball officials after the game at Barleycorns in Lakeside Park and when I asked about the dance ,they just rolled their eyes and shook their heads. They are holding out hope however that it will get better, as it seems that the freshmen class, when NDA hosted triple header came out in large numbers to root on their Freshmen Classmates.

 

The Ninth Region is thinking of moving the start of the first games from 6pm to 6:30pm to make it a bit easier for fans to get to the BOKC next year but they need to speak to NKU first to find out about traffic at that time of the night around the University.

 

While there is always going to be missed or blown calls at every game be it HS, College or even the Pros, the 8th Region Stripes have done a rather nice job of maintaining the flow of the games while keeping order on the floor. Congrats gentlemen!

 

While I didn't see it, I was told by a couple of media camera guys that the "BOKC seat police" tried very hard to keep the CovCath Crazies "yell leaders" in the stands while they were trying to lead the Crazies in their cheering! Come on "seat police" didn't you see the crowds at Half Time enjoying the Crazies. The Crazies "yell leaders" do more leading of their student bodies in cheering than any "Cheerleaders" ever have done!

 

In the 10 games played so far in both the Girls and Boys Ninth Region Tourney, only two of the game have been stinkers. All the other games have been close and exciting to watch and proves that there really is parity this season in the Ninth Region.

 

Here is hoping that the Ninth has a game program for sale next season at the BOKC! Seems two of the problems are the 36th playing their Championship games Saturday night causing the draw to take place on Sunday and the coaches themselves getting their roster in on a timely manner. I am certain that many fans attending the games would love to have a program and be willing to pay a buck or two for it, as most know who their players are but don't know who the other teams players are.

 

Just talked with my NDA senior daughter who BTW is out of town on a competition dance team (no affiliation with NDA) with about 20 other NDA girls and she said there was a dance at NDA but most of the kids were not going to the dance but were instead attending a Corey Smith? concert. There were even NDA basketball players going until they won and had to play last night. I'm sure they were more happy about winning but they did have tickets to the concert.

 

So it's not all the schools fault with scheduling a dance. But they do some weird scheduling up on that hill though. LOL!!! They can't please all!

Dixie sells an athletic pass to students that gets them into all home regular season events for a very reasonable price, I want to say $15.

What was the price to attend the District games this year in the 34th and do you honestly think the KHSAA will do it for The Kids to attend the Sweet Sixteen?

I know they sell it based on regular season events, but as generous as Dixie's principal is to her students I would not be surprised if she honored the passes at the district tourney. I do think if the price was lower say 4 dollars for students you could get more kids to attend and they would make more money, but what do I know.

The passes were not honored at the district tourney. Mrs. Banta is indeed a great lady but she follows the rules as well. The passes are only good for the regular season.

As I stated it was an outstanding and generous move but I don't think she can let the Dixie students attend the District games for free, unless she was playing for the tickets, as that money is shared amongst the District members and the KHSAA (I believe) and the KHSAA isn't giving anything away free!

You can buy a ticket at one of the schools that is playing or still playing in the tourney in advance of their game. As an example, Boone County was selling tickets to their game on Sunday between 10 and noon on Saturday at the school.

 

CovCath was given the 250 tickets that all the schools playing were given to sell for $6.00 and had to keep going back for more!

 

Not a bad price for two games of quality basketball in this day and age!

See I have a problem with those who think everything is free! Administration cost, uniforms cost, transporations cost, lights cost, field/building maintenance cost, equipment cost, insurance cost, coaches need to be paid cost, medical trainers who have to be there whether it's practice or games cost, game officials cost and what about those sports like tennis, bowling, track and field, swimming, cross country that don't produce revenue but cost and I honestly could go on and on, somebody has to pay the bills. Do you think the kids who play the game should shoulder the bill? Should the taxpayers shoulder the bill? Who do you think should pay? BTW when I attended CovCath there was indeed a fee that each student had to pay but it let you in "free" to all the games but of course someone complained about it so.........

 

And I honestly understand where you are coming from but in reality, somebody has to pay!

Places like Holy Cross at least used to let their students in to home games for free, which is is great! But I think it is just an excuse when "it cost too much" comes up when people are wondering why students don't attend the regional games! These same kids will be at the mall spending money, or the movies that week anyway, they simply have no spirit like they used to!

 

When Cooper played at Ryle this year it was mentioned on here that the Cooper lower side was filled, and some people in the upper part, But that Ryle's side only had some family members and a handful of students? I also attended a few games this year with both teams begin from large schools and the student sections were sad to say the least.

 

They can eat before they go, they can put 3-4 people a car and split the cost to park, so now it doesn't cost them more than a few bucks, okay now what is their excuse going to be? If you let them in for free and they still don't come, then what do you want to do to bringthem out? Again, many schools these days just do not have much school spirit, large schools only bring a dozen or so students is sad.

 

I was at the Cintas all day and they don't seem to have the same trouble there, and here is a shocker, it cost about the same amount.

BOK is nice, comfortable and provides a great viewing opportunity. Kids love to play on this floor. Students have many options for entertainment and it is not the dollars that keep most away. I am a huge fan of the BOK so I hope it stays put for years to come. I would also like to see the return of the tenth to the BOK.
