I think the schools themselves suffer from a lack of "school spirit"! Much less emphasis on sports than in the "old days". Kids don't seem to know when the games are - I guess the schools don't promote the games well? Most of the schools I've seen games in this year offered no program. Sometimes it is difficult to find any info on the teams or their schedules on the school's websites. There isn't any good reason for that.

 

I guess everyone is too busy with all the other school and family activities, & solo activities (xbox, etc.), there is just a lot of competition for parent's & kid's time. Plus a bit of a drive for some. It's too bad some fans don't take part as they should.

 

BOK is a very nice facility; ( Comfy chair vs hard bench ? Hmm? ) It's the best place for regionals, but I do miss the crazy noise and excitement of a packed hs gym for the big games . . .

You couple this with the one way in to park and it is a nightmare. I waited in traffic for 20 minutes from the I275 exit to the round-a-bout Thursday, only to see a line going across the "bridge" waiting for tickets. Since it was now 6:15, I kept going around the round-a-bout and went home.

I would assume that Dixie does charge for home game in both sports, but you can also get a hot dog for a buck. I just think other schools should follow Dixie's lead and give out free tickets to the students to create best atmosphere possible. These days, they need to realize there are lots of other things for kids to do and these are "competitors" to the games. Give the kids an enticement. As far as the CCH students go, well c'mon OG, we both know they are a bad example to use. They are simply the best. Kudos to the Dixie administration for the kind gesture.

This is my biggest beef. The place is an awesome venue but seems like they had some very poor planning with those ticket windows. I arrived at 5:45 today and had about a 15 minute wait in the rain before I even got in the door. Other than that it beats the heck out of sweating it out in a HS arena.

I've attended games this week in the 9th, 10th, and 16th. Ellis T. Johnson Arena at MSU is a great place to watch a came. Very nice and laid back atmosphere. The Fieldhouse at Mason County always has tremendous atmosphere and the tradition is second to none. The BOKC is the better venue of the three. However, I felt like I had to ask permission from the "seat police" to breathe. If the BOKC can get a grip on their ushers and get them to lighten up some it would be great. I also witnessed one of the "seat police" rip a student up one side and down another for have his feet on the back of the seat in front of him. I'm not say the student should have had his feet on the seat. But, a simple "please take your feet of the seat would have worked". Maybe that's why many of the students are staying away.

Clyde that made me laugh out loud. They would not do anything to help you get to your seat. But they would always come up to you with their hand extended wanting a tip. I would always slap their hand and say "theirs your five". Believe me they didn't find the humor in it as me and my buddies did.

The Fieldhouse has been in use for the regional for over forty years? I thought that Henry County's gym has the longest tradition for being used for a regional tournament.

I've been to the Roy twice and it's a nice venue. It's old and that's obvious but you feel the history when you walk into the place. I just wish it was a hop, skip and jump from Independence.

I love going to the regional games at BOKC. Yes, the traffic is not good getting in and out of the parking lots. They need to route people other directions instead of funneling everyone through the roundabout. But the venue is great. It would be awesome to get the tenth back there and double up like they did a couple of years back. I really enjoyed seeing the tenth region and ninth region game together. The crowds have been good. The semifinals tonight pretty well filled the lower bowl. I don't think any high school gym in N. Ky. could have held tonight's crowd.

Was told that attendance is down a little this year. Seems that St. Henry, and Holmes brought very few fans to their games and Ryle and Boone County brought very few to their first round games. I must say I was a little surprised by the statement, as I thought the crowds were pretty decent and the attendance for the Saturday nights games were outstanding.

 

Spoke to a gentlemen who had the attendance stats for NKU and he told me that the largest crowd NKU has had this season was against Bellarmine and was around 4800 but most of the other games were in the 1000 to 1500 with one game having only 700 fans at the game. Link Seems to me at least, that the Ninth Region is pulling in more fans to view HS Basketball, than is the NKU men's team is pulling in to see Division II College Basketball.

 

The Dixie students again did a great job of cheering on their classmates as did the NCC kids (congrats to both schools) but the Ryle and Boone County kids seemed to just sit and talk amongst themselves! Hopefully both the NCC and Dixie students sections will rock the BOKC Sunday afternoon!

 

As much as I think the stripes are doing a good job of calling the games, there was a play in the Ryle vs NCC game that just about floored me that received a no call. About midway in the second quarter a NCC guard while dribbling on the opposite side of the floor from the benches, dribbled away from a Ryle player by dribbling out of bounds. Now it just wasn't by a toe or a couple of inches but he had to be two feet out of bounds. It reminded of a nascar race where the drivers aren't suppose to drive down below the yellow line but sometime do. It just looked so strange to see the young man just drive down along the baseline so far out of bounds and the stripe not calling it.

 

I believe Dixie will be selling $6.00 tickets at their School on Sunday morning for Sunday Boy's Championship game. I am not sure about NCC but my guess is they will also! If you don't like to pay the additional two dollars or don't want to wait in a line at the BOKC, think about driving over to Dixie/NCC on Sunday morning to purchase tickets in advance. I would suggest calling first to verify the hours!

 

Looks like the Champions of the Ninth Region just might want to contact CovCath after the game on Sunday! The reason? CovCath has played both the Knights of LexCath and the Indians of Madison Central and has game film of both teams! Those two teams will play for the 11th Region Championship on Monday and the Ninth is scheduled to play one of those teams in the first round of the Sweet Sixteen!
