I dont know that answer! I know for a fact in the past there has been guys at both!

It was my understanding that if you were involved in a high school sport (baseball) you cound not participate in any other sport meaning football. I am not sure how that works..It is a school policy or a statewide thing?

Jeremy made his decision and there should be no doubt that the decision was based on what he thought was best for the program. I'm embarrassed for doing something that I tell others not to do: if I disagree with a coach, I pick up the phone and discuss it. I don't criticize the coach or the decision in public. Are you serious? Now you sound like Mike Brown we have a 20 yr plan to win. That is just a stupid comment to make. You are going to cut a kid who can help you win now in hopes of a kid who might be able to help you in a couple of years. Thats is silly and cant believe you said that in print. Look my kid may not have helped the team win anymore games this year then they already would have. You have a freshman team and a JV team to get kids ready for Vr playing time thats what they do in football,track,basketball and every other sport.

I know you know this Coop, but for the sake of discussion....Football and baseball just don't go by the same set of rules always. As a predominately football guy, it took me a while to grasp some of the decisions I saw baseball coaches making, especially those regarding personel. For instance, in many baseball programs, if you're not good enough for varsity as a junior, you're cut. There's no dropping down to jv like in football, or no sitting on the sidelines either since you don't have unlimited roster spots like football. Somtimes if you've got a soph who's the equivalent of a lower-end jr, that jr will be cut to open up a varsiy spot for the soph - which theoretically would be better for the program in the long run.

 

These decisions can be hard to grasp when your background is predominately football.

Don' worry, that optimism is still there. Think of it like the infighting within the Republican party over exactly what's the best way to get rid of Obamacare - repeal it outright, or take it appart piece by piece. Same goal, slightly different path.

At least they are talking about the program; if they are not talking a coach could be walking. On topic is the website updated with roster?

Would it not also be a stretch to assume that all of these seniors, many of whom haven't played baseball in several years, would have "an immediate impact"? Being a good/great athlete, which I'm sure most/all of them are, doesn't automatically mean you qualify as a high quality baseball player.

Why is it important to put the classes "back in balance"? You think it would be a better idea to take all these seniors, making the team very senior top-heavy, and reduce the opportunities of juniors/sophs to obtain some varsity experience? You don't think that might affect following years' teams that are then filled with players that have little-to-no varsity time?

 

 

Pls define high quality baseball player. For those Srs and others that have worked so hard to make this team I respect all of you and I am not referring to you as a whole or individually.. I just want to know the definition of this comment. Pls enlighten me.........

 

And yes, the opportunity and experience for the underclassmen to play varsity would be during the week of "Sr Trip".

 

Sorry folks, I just want to go to war with my (15) Sr Men and we will find a way to win. Just sayn............And then we will build off of this next yr and the next yr and so and so on.

The NewCaths,CovCaths, Ryles, etc are sitting back and agreeing 100% with the Coaches policies because lets face it, they dont want Highlands to win because at the end of the day they know Highlands can and has been a force in baseball in the past.

Then I have an extremely hard time believing those kids would be able to play at a very high level on a high school varsity baseball team. Most difficult thing to do in sports is hit a pitched ball consistently. That's not a skill you can simply pick up. As a matter of fact, I think baseball is a sport that you have to continuously add to your skills to be successful. Take a couple of years off and you're done. My guess is that the coach did exactly the right thing. In football, you can simply be more man than the other guy and be successful to an extent. Basketball, you can sometimes get by on length. Baseball, not so much.
