In order to not take over a thread about 9th region baseball more than it already has, lets talk about Highlands baseball this year. It is my understanding that cuts have been made. What are the numbers this year by class? Who are some of the players to watch? Does this team have a chance to be successful in the District and/or the Region this year.

16 8th graders

It just seems that to have and wait for 4 more yrs is a bit risky to say the least when (9) very good baseball Srs could have contributed this yr and began an immediate impact and helped put the classes back in balance. JMO.

I can't believe this is even an issue. If you want to play baseball, DO NOT go on spring break. Kids are not permitted to leave for spring break during the season at the high schools tht I am familiar with, so what's the big deal? I don't understand what the issue with players not leaving a week during the season. Please tell me what I am missing here. If your kid is committed to playing baseball than it will not be an issue with him.

Would it not also be a stretch to assume that all of these seniors, many of whom haven't played baseball in several years, would have "an immediate impact"? Being a good/great athlete, which I'm sure most/all of them are, doesn't automatically mean you qualify as a high quality baseball player.

 

Why is it important to put the classes "back in balance"? You think it would be a better idea to take all these seniors, making the team very senior top-heavy, and reduce the opportunities of juniors/sophs to obtain some varsity experience? You don't think that might affect following years' teams that are then filled with players that have little-to-no varsity time?

Are you serious? Now you sound like Mike Brown we have a 20 yr plan to win. That is just a stupid comment to make. You are going to cut a kid who can help you win now in hopes of a kid who might be able to help you in a couple of years. Thats is silly and cant believe you said that in print. Look my kid may not have helped the team win anymore games this year then they already would have. You have a freshman team and a JV team to get kids ready for Vr playing time thats what they do in football,track,basketball and every other sport.

I did hear football equipment was passed out yesterday for the birds. How will that be handled? Are kids going to miss baseball practice for football? Is baseball going to change the schedule so that all the football guys can make it to both? Just get to baseball when you get your equipment!! If thats the case and what does happen then how is that any different then missing for spring break?

It was my understanding that if you were involved in a high school sport (baseball) you cound not participate in any other sport meaning football. I am not sure how that works..It is a school policy or a statewide thing?
