Is T. Jones a top 5 NBA Pick?

Featured Replies

I get as frustrated with Jones as anyone. However, you can't deny his talent. Like someone stated above he is averaging 17 points and almost 9 rebounds a game as a Freshman. He is immature and selfish, but how many 19 year olds with his talent aren't? If he stayed in College Basketball 2 more years, he would be POY his Junior year. Unfortunately, in this day and age we don't get to see that. If Jones ever wakes up and gets it, I believe he will be a Mashburn type player.

For everyone who gets on T. Jones, just realize had he not changed his verbal...UK would be looking at a sub 500 record this year IMO.

Did you not see the UCONN or the Georgia game on the road (It may have been South Carolina)? He had dunks in traffic those games as in the Notre Dame game. Teams are forcing him to shoot jumpers now by not taking the shot fakes.

So he looked good in one or two college games, and other than that he's been forced outside?

He's got good moves, but I still don't think he's super athletic or plays above the rim.

Then we will have to agree to disagree.

I think he's a certain top 10 pick. I wouldn't venture to say much more than that, because this draft looks like it's going to have a lot of guys who could grade out similar based on potential, so the draft order, the needs of the teams and preference will play a big role. For instance, in three mock drafts I looked at Jones is 7, 8 and 5. Harrison Barnes is 6, 11 and 8 respectively. It could simply come down to a matter of preference for a team deciding between those two guys.

At best he's Lamar Odom. At worst he's Eddie Griffin.

NBA teams generally draft based on the "best" and Lamar Odom was picked #4 overall. If a team thinks they're getting a guy who will be a Lamar Odom-esque player when drafting Jones, I don't think there's any doubt he's going in the top 10.

He has potential but he really needs to develop a right hand. Especially if he's gonna play for pay.

I think he goes top 5. He's versatile and that will help him alot. I think NBA guys will see him as a smaller Lamar Odom. I think he could be a better NBA player than college player.

NBADRAFT.net was updated last night and it has Kanter#5, Jones#7, Knight#15, and Faried#19.

Draftexpress was updated 2-28 and has Kanter#6, Jones#8, Knight#22, and Faried#32.

Do you guys honestly think he is that bad?

Think about it. He is bigger than Pat, and will play three in the league, something that would have been a luxury for Patterson to be able to do but hes stuck banging with fours and being undersized. Could you imagine Patterson having as well of rounded out game as Jones? Not saying heart and drive of Patterson but just comparing their games. I know TJ has some very bad moments, but you guys are forgetting he has had some very good ones. If he can add consistency to his game he would be a monster. He's almost always putting up a double double and along with Knight is about to surpass 500 points, not bad for a freshman. If he could develop a consistent jumper he will be a nice player for years to come. He was very selfish at the beginning of the year but is really 100x more team friendly than he was earlier in the season. When Jones shows up to play and decides he wants to take it to the rack with force instead of settling for jumpers, he is a scoring machine. His shots normally come off of that when he is having his best games, its just a matter of coming out with that same intensity every night. The skill set he possesses at 6'9'' is pretty good, he can handle, pass, already has an NBA body. The hardest part for him has been coming from a team where he was the man and was expected to shoulder most of the load (5A state championship team) and mesh with guys who are also capable of shouldering that load. He still has a ways to go in doing that but has already came a long way from where he was at. Going back to the Hoops Summit Game, he can more than hold his own against other NBA talent so I think he will be a solid NBA player for years to come. Not the next Lebron or anything but will be a good player.

Probably, tough its become clearly apparent, he could use more time to get ready.

No, nor is anyone else. There shouldn't be a player on the team even thinking about the NBA.

Agreed on both accounts. He's got some game, just needs consistency and to improve on some things. The talent is more than adequate.
