This is the face of your franchise and sadly your best player. He also plays the only position where it's possible to earn the money he did. Idiot 85 and guys like him spend too much and are far too dumb to pull this off.

I don't see how you couldn't trade him, especially if you're looking to get a QB in the draft. He still has value, and trading him could bring in another good player or some good draft picks. Why lose him and get absolutely nothing when you have a chance to get something in return? Just based on principle and ego? I just don't see what's positive about letting him retire.

 

I'd trade him. Remember back in the day when Wash was offering 1st rounder+ for Chad? I said ship him off too back then. Cincy didn't and got nothing but headaches. I don't think Palmer is the kind to fool around. There is one thing more important than money every time and that's your health. His mental health is shot there and physically the Cincy organization has been stupid the way they handled his injuries. I don't blame him one bit. To me more than anything it is just reinforcement on how poorly the Bengals are run. You can't let the inmates run the prison but at the same time you have a choice on something in return or nothing at all and looking stupid. I thought Marvin needed a change of scenery and I think CP does too. Get rid of the trouble making WR's and build more of a Balt/Pitt type team which is what Cincy was 2 years ago when they won the Division. Defense+running the ball physically.

If Cincy was built to spread the field then great but I just think they have a lot of skill guys on the decline to spread it out. Spread is a great way to beat Pitt/Balt if you have all the pieces but Cincy doesn't.

 

To sit on him and make him retire is a terrible football decision. I'm guessing that's what the Bengals do they because they don't make good football decisions.

 

People talk about being like th Ravens, Steelers, etc. What is the one thing they also have? That is a QB to run the team, and you all act like you trust the Bengals organization to go out and find a QB who can do that for us? A owner with a terrible track record when it comes to finding a QB, yet we trust him to find us one now? Yes the other times when players wanted out he should have traded him, however this is the first time IMO where he actually does need to stay strong.

 

I personally don't think he will retire. That is why I think they need to try to call him on it. I mean Palmer has seen that Mike Brown has not traded anyone in the past. Palmer is smart though, he knows those players in the past never had any leverage to make it happen. So he is trying to do the one thing a player can do to get that leverage IMO. So of coarse he is going to make it look like in every way possible that he is serious about retiring. He will have things link out to make it look like it. So I say keep him and make him prove it then. If people actually want this team to have a chance at winning, he still gives the Bengals their best chance. Yes still draft a QB in the draft, and either way they are still building for the future even if he does come back. So I say make him prove that he is serious about retiring, and its not just him trying to get leverage. If you do trade him, then wait until a few weeks into training camp, and get a draft pick or two for the 2012 draft. However Palmer gives them the best chance still, and so I do whatever I take to get him to be here still. He is not a player that wouldn't give it his all, if he did come back. So for once I hope Mike Brown sticks to what he usually does, this would be the first time it would be smart not to IMO. Unless you all want to see us back to what we were in the 90's.

Players usually never have leverage when they ask for a trade, but he is trying to do that here. So I think they would be best off to make him prove it. Even if it cost them not getting draft picks for this year. Then if he really does not show up for training camp, then trade him and get a pick for 2012. However the Bengals best chance at winning remains with Palmer, so I say they need to try to at least call him on his bluff hopefully. They aren't getting a draft pick this year anyway unless there is a new CBA before the draft which from everything I've read is highly unlikey. CP knew that risk and still put his house for sale and let it be known he would retire. I really don't think he's bluffing. Marvin went out to talk to him and now the Bengals might listen to offers. Pretty much sums it up that Marvin thinks he's serious. To play hardball when he's available would drive down the price. If they wait too long to trade him some of the teams that might be interested in him will look other places. The smartest football move once there is a deal is to have the NFC West teams bidding against each other the minute a deal is reached. Anything else and they lose value or have to hope he was bluffing.

Other players don't bring as much value as Palmer, and he won't bring anything more than a 3rd round pick. This won't start a slew of trade requests b/c other players will just be cut or told to shut it, and they will b/c they need the dough.

I will respectfully disagree with you on this. It will all depend on which team he would be traded to, and the situation that team is in. For instance say Tennessee starts out the season with Kerry Collins at QB, and go 7-1 to start the season before he goes down with a broken hand. Are they willing to bet the rest of the season on Chris Simms??? (assuming they haven't added anyone else in the draft or free agency). I think someone of Palmer's maturity would be definitely on the top of their list. And at that point in time, they'd be more willing to part with a higher draft choice. Teams are going to have to go through the draft...sign any free agents...and get to camp, and maybe even start the season before they realize the worth of a Carson Palmer.

This isn't a trade request...it's a demand. And if you let him retire, you get absolutely nothing in return for him. If you trade him, you get something back.

On ESPN NFL Live today they was bashing Palmer saying he is not worth a number 1 pick and his career is on the down hill.
