I like how Booher has developed his Sophomores this season. Palmer, Coston and now Engleman all have been inserted into games early and often and they are now contributing in big games. This will bode well also for next season. Smart if you ask me.

Late in the game it was obvious that CCH wouldn't keep up with Holmes. They made it look easy late in the game. Now if they can improve on defensive rotations look out in the regional tourney!

WOW! 5 kids from Holmes make this team. I thought Cruse from Beechwood was deserving. If I remember he had something like 17 point and 15 rebounds.

Teams are named by the respective coaches and prior to tournaments the number each team can have is set...therefore 1 Beechwood and Holy Cross player. Trust me the coaches don't like going through this either..what should be a positive just gets people (parents) upset.

Last night's game was a microcosm of CovCath's season. When they played with energy, attacking on offense and moving their feet a defense they looked very good. Then there would be a 2 or 3 minute "lapse" in play where they would have unforced errors, would play passively on both offense and defense. They struggled fom the outside, which allowed Holmes to pack it in on Thelen, and forced someone else to hit the mid-range jumper. Last night Connelly was on his game and played very well. Baker's shot just wasn't there, even though I thought he took good shots and played well on defense.

 

I said it before the game, and I'll say it again. If Baker and Connelly are both "on", Covcath will be very hard to beat. When one or the other is off, it makes it difficult for them to beat the top tier teams.

 

For Holmes, I was very impressed with Mr. Knox. Even though Jake put up 25, primarily on Knox, he made Jake work hard for those points. Late in the game, he refused to allow Thelen to get position down low and literally backed him out of rebounding position for 2nd chance points. He never lost his cool, just played within himself and allowed Gray and Hayes to do their thing. I am extremely impressed how poised this Holmes team plays. They obviously aren't as talented as the last few years, but they play much more in control and don't seem to have the mental "gaffs" last years team sometimes showed.

CCH needs to get over their turnover problem. (The unforced kind) Reidinger with the first two fouls of the game made him a non-factor last night. Holmes is blazing fast with the ball. Holmes will be a tough out. You really have to hand it to Coach Booher. He took over a team that lost alot of talent, and has molded Hayes and Gray into fine players. Then, despite much distraction, the other guys who were jv or lower last year really stepped up to win the 35th district crown. CCH had Thelan as a two year starter returning this year. Machinot who was a two year starter returning. Connely had been hurt, but Reidinger had played alot of varsity last year. I think Booher has to be considered as Coach of the Year, although I project Chevy of Dixie will get it with Brannen of NCC close behind.

Agreed. Show me a program that between graduation/transfers/"other issues" lost about 10 players and came back with a bunch of players with not much experience YET still is a top team.

Most coaches in the region would take that talent and see what happens in the end.

Obviously there is talent. However,don't diminish the challenge that the staff had.
