This makes five years in a row that St. X has lost in the first round of the district tournament. Last year they were ahead by a bunch of points late in the game and still found a way to lose it.

It doesn't make any difference. Neither of these teams was going to beat Ballard, J'Town, Eastern or Trinity in the regional.

Are you kidding? It does make a difference to those kids at Collegiate to be the first in the history of their school to get to the 7th Region Tournament. It makes a difference to the St. X kids that have to go face their peers tomorrow after a tough loss. It matters to a lot more people than you think.

Collegiate upset the Tigers in the soccer preseason as well. They must have some good athletes.

WOW is right! St. X has improved sooooo much since AD Donhoff got rid of Bergamini. He wanted the basketball program to go in a different direction and now it has! I hope the re-districting moves that powerhouse Collegiate away from us next year.

In the re-alignment St. X keeps Collegiate in their district, but replaces Manual with Brown. Could it be another giant killer moving in? Brown has a few more boys than Collegiate!

WOW!! What an upset. I am from NKY so I was trying to equate this to teams up here. I have found that it would be like Villa Madonna beating a team with 4 times the number of boys Boone County High School! Congrats to these Collegiate men. Good luck in the 7th Region tournament!

Collegiate stuns St. X 45-43 to make first-ever regional

 

 

The most ardent high school basketball fan most likely has never heard of Harris Levine, but on Tuesday night he hit the shot heard around Louisville.

The Collegiate senior knocked down a 14-foot jumper as time expired to give the Titans a shocking 45-43 victory over St. Xavier in a 25th District Tournament semifinal at Male.

The victory assured Collegiate — the tiny school on Glenmary Avenue — of its first trip to the Seventh Region Tournament next week.

 

"Coming from a school with only 200 kids in the high school, it's like you never even dream of going up against the big guys,” Levine said of beating St. X (enrollment: 1,450). “Now, beating them is just unreal.”

Levine scored a game-high 18 points as the Titans (16-12) advanced to face Male (11-14) in Thursday's 7 p.m. district final.
