New CBA with a hard cap will kill the Knicks in trying to bring someone in next year.

 

It will hurt them worse the year after when they go after Deron Williams. Next year they could sign a bunch of role players. They may need to try to build assets again quickly and try and get whichever PG either NO or Utah will give up first. I'm still wondering about how "hard" the cap will actually be. Your Lakers would be the team hurt the most next year as they are going to be way over whatever the limit is. Miami and NYK will end up right behind them.

I think they're on their way. I don't think Melo and Amar'e are exactly made for each other though. Had they kept a player or two that they traded away I would have liked the deal much better.

According to that article it looks like Curry will be in a T'Wolves jersey.

I will not concede that Denver gets the better end of this deal. With limited exceptions do you ever trade away your star player for lesser players and end up in a better position.

Long term in sports is for the birds. Pro sports is about winning now or within the next year or two. I would much rather roll the dice with Melo, Amare, and 3 other guys than with a couple of expiring contracts, some nice players, and hopeful players in the future years being on the roster. That does not mean I believe NY will be a player in the NBA, but there chances have improved, imo.

Well of course their chances are improved but with the new CBA it's going to effect what they want to do in free agency. They will be relevant but they aren't a top 5 team to me.

I think Chauncey will do good in D'Antoni's system and of course Melo is an upgrade from Gallinari. So when looking at the trade you can almost say Felton/Billups is a toss up (although Felton is obviously younger and has more potential), Gallinari + Chandler

 

The team New York had would be competitive for a few years but they were far from being really good, you saw that when they played the upper echelon teams. Of course you could expect them to get better because of the youth, but other than Amare no one else on the team will ever been All Star talent. That is why IMO you have to go and get Melo. The NBA is all about having the best players you can possibly have, and when you can get two of the top ten on the same team, you do it. Even if that means losing some quality depth you could have saved by waiting to try and get Melo in the offseason, you also could cost yourself the opportunity to get him at all, it was obvious Denver was going to get what they could for him. By getting Brewer, and with the surprising rookie campaign by Fields, all the Knicks really have to do IMO is sign some post depth this off season and another shooter or two and they will be a really good team. If they could somehow get a Marc Gasol or Javele McGee this season then they will be good right now. I just feel that people are stretching way too much when they say the Knicks gave up way too much, IMO they had to do it. You cannot say that giving up Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, and Felton was too much to get Melo, especially when you get Chauncey and Brewer with it.

Knicks are far away from a title, IMO. They still need Chris Paul and probably a center to compete in the East.

Some good stuff on Mike&Mike, they are one game over .500, he was gonna be a free agent next year anyway, but he felt like the Knicks were taking him for granted, they wasn't giving up enough to get him now. Most teams need to win a championship need at least two superstars. Going to be interesting.

Not disagreeing but the NBA more than any other league is about star caliber players on your roster. Take who you have and figure out the rest later.

 

Not that Melo is in the same league as Jordan, but this debate always reminds me of Bob Knight reflecting back to the '84 draft. Someone solicited Knight's opinion on who they should draft and he told them Michael Jordan. They explained they needed a Center though. And Knight responded, "well, play Jordan at Center then." Point being, if you feel Melo is a superstar level talent, the NBA averages producing one of those guys maybe each year. Chances of Denver getting that type or return is slim.

They weren't winning a title with the team they had and they aren't winning one with his one either. It created buzz at MSG and it might have made them a little better, but not much. Highly doubtful that they land Paul or D Williams. They also might give up 140 ppg because they have zero defense.
