January 31, 201115 yr Author I would guess they hire from within since no one knows when the new CBA will be signed. If they hire from outside the organization, how are the players going to learn the new offensive system if the CBA isn't signed until July or August? Getting a new CBA quickly is very important for the new OC.
January 31, 201115 yr Zempese (sp.) could have called the plays for it if it came down to that. Then if they knew they were going to fire Brat, and kept him just because of the Senior Bowl, while other teams made moves to get guys who were available. Then they are even dumbere than I realized. Not to mention why did the wait so long to start looking at people, if they knew they were getting rid of him? Why did Palmer wait a few weeks after the season before he decided to ask for a trade, unless he found out that no changes were being made. I don't think it is a coincidence that three days after Palmer tells Mike Brown that he wants to be traded, that they start looking at people for the OC job. From all indications they had not done anything at all when it came to looking around, until after Palmer asked for the trade. Then as soon as he asked, they suddenly started looking around. I don't think that was a coincidence. You do realize that Marvin met with Childress prior to Palmer demanding a trade, right? You need to be aware of the proper sequence of events.
January 31, 201115 yr From the Bengals site: 'It is believed that is going to be the only change on an offensive staff that has taken the bulk of the heat for the Bengals' 4-12 season and indications are it is going to be an outside hire.' http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Bengals-mull-Brat-replacement/7061323d-da21-4d4c-b063-eadb5893b1dd
January 31, 201115 yr I don't suppose we could get lucky enough that Brian Billick would come back to coaching, and take over as OC as a favor to his old coaching-mate Lewis? After all, isn't he originally from Dayton or somewhere nearby?
January 31, 201115 yr ^ I don't see any reason to fire him if you are just going to promote someone else running the same things, so that makes sense.
January 31, 201115 yr You do realize that Marvin met with Childress prior to Palmer demanding a trade, right? You need to be aware of the proper sequence of events. You do realize Palmer asked for the trade from Mike Brown a week before it was reported. It was reported on the Sunday of the Championship games, however Palmer met with Brown earlier that week on Monday and asked for the trade then. It was just not reported until later that week on Sunday. The Bengals met with Childress on that Thursday, which was three days after Palmer asked for the trade. So maybe take your own advice, and be aware of the proper sequence of events.
January 31, 201115 yr You do realize that Marvin met with Childress prior to Palmer demanding a trade, right? You need to be aware of the proper sequence of events. Just my theory but I believe they met with Childress as a courtesy to Lewis (he tried to move Bratowski three seasons ago and Brown was having none of it) but when the decision came down that Brat was staying.........Palmer played his hand....... he stays, I go. I believe with Bratowski gone Palmer will quietly be back in the fold. Again, JMO....
January 31, 201115 yr I'm afraid that Mikey B will hire from within and we'll have the same problem down the road. Regardless, this is a step in the right direction.

From everything I remember reading, the Childress meeting was known to be taking place multiple days before he was in town. Either way, I'd say this move has very little, if anything to do with SoCal boy, and more to do with Marvin and the front office wanting to appease the workhorse of the offense, Ced.
January 31, 201115 yr So Carson Palmer should be in the Pro Bowl next year? Exactly... Seriously you need to let the Carson thing go. Edited January 31, 201115 yr by HammerTime
January 31, 201115 yr Heard on the radio that they are expecting the Bengals to hire from outside the organization.
