Brossart 49 Newport Catholic 42 OT

The parent who was ejected was not the same person who got into the shouting match after the game. Two separate situations. The parent must have said something the ref did not like but he was never out of control and once he was asked to leave, he left peacefully.

NewCath is a great community. However, the way that parents have responded to tough losses in football and basketball are embarrassing. I wasn't at the game, so I won't comment on anything other than to be escorted from a game due to a referee's poor performance makes NewCath look bad. If what LAWildcat said is true, than the Brossart parent needs to reassess some things in his/her life as well. I mean, how bad is your life presently to have to talk trash to a 17 or 18 year-old coming off of the court?

I spoke with a gentleman who was not only at the game, but sitting within hearing range of the Brossart parent. Apparently, the teams were doing the post game handshakes, and the Brossart parent's son and the NewCath kid (who had apparently almost come to blows during the game) started talking smack to one another. The Brossart parent supposedly told the NewCath player to go to the locker room and to stop crying, the game was over. NewCath's coach took exception and started in on the Brossart fan, the whole thing lasted all of 30 seconds and is being blown way out of proportion.

Always wise to "leave peacefully" when a police officer has you by the arm!! :D

Sounds like there was an altarcation:D

Those darn catholic schools. :D

From what I heard the guy that got ejected wasnt the guy yelling at the ref, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Im sure he wasnt innocent but may not have been the primary offender.

While I agree it was a very short lived event and not the huge deal being portrayed here, I still say it's never ok to yell at the kids coming off the court. That Brossart parent needed to be talking to his own kid in this situation and let the NCC coach worry about his kids.

And I'd say it's human nature for a parent to defend their kid. Anyone saying otherwise is lying to themselves. The whole thing was much ado about nothing.

No, the parent needed to keep his mouth shut in this situation. If he wants to discuss with his son he should wait until after his kid comes out of the locker room after the game. I agree it was short lived and handled very well by the BBHS administration.

Certainly agree this one is getting blown way out of proportion, but since you won't let it die...........? Having been at the game, and talked to those close by; there seems to be plenty of blame to go around. The BB parent was out of line, as was the NCC parent that got an early exit by the police (in the 1st half); and no excuses should be made when adults act like children.

The outburst at the end was incited in no small part by a very hard (and unnecessary) foul (its called a takedown in wrestling) with a few seconds left (NCC down by 5), which obviously hadn't died down when the players exchanged greetings in their lines. Quickly contained by both staffs and nearby fans, and yes there was some verbal sparring by the NCC HC and some of his staff (no one was ejected); but one assistant in particular helped calm the entire situation on both sides. A side note after the incident was another NCC parent (related Mom??) tried to keep things going but was moved along as well. And we wonder where the kids get such behavior??

Unfortunately this was a sour footnote to an otherwise very entertaining basketball game, and not nearly worthy of the play its getting here and on other sites. It's always a bitter pill to swallow for fans when their prohibitive favorite team gets upset; but when its a rivalry game, it seems to get magnified. This was quite evident in the behavior (and language) both in and outside of the gym after the game, and the shame is that it was mostly "adults" (and many older "adults")? As UKM says, much ado about nothing!!

This is what I heard also..

I'd heard similar, that there were several "louder" fans behind him; but don't think he was just sitting on his hands either?

Either way, officials need to not allow themselves to get caught up in carrying on a discussion with abusive fans; but rather report the offenders, and let the proper authorities take care of the situation. Fans, for their part, need to heed an officials' warning, and not continue to run their mouths without expecting an early exit.

A parent from pendleton told me last night that the Pendleton County boys team received a technical foul because one of their own fans was yelling at the officials.

This shows the incompetency of this official. No where in the rule book does it say a ref can access a technical on a team because of what a fan says. How does he even know it was a Pendelton fan? MOST of what has been discussed here could have been avoided by officials not conversing with fans. Either ignor them, or if the abuse warrants it, have them pitched, but NEVER talk to fans in this situation. Also, a fan NEVER has the right to comment to a player during or after the game, especially a parent.

Wrong - Didn't happen.

The only technical I remember was one on a JV player during the JV game for reacting negatively to a foul called on him.
