I'll lay it out for you on a site where Mike Brown doesn't pay the employees. Palmer asked for a trade. Mikey said no. CP and his agent or someone that was allowed to "leak" the info called Mort. Connecting these dots isn't very hard. His agent played this brilliantly too. It's been a major story since Sunday and the Conference championship games were played and the talk should be Super Bowl yet every football segment I heard on espn radio the last two days addressed Palmer.

The threat may be enough too. If there is no new deal he won't even miss OTA's. If the deal is reached and he skips the OTA's he has all the leverage. His agent is a big deal and they had to think this through before leaking the info.

Yeah ignorant fan was not the right word for him to use. However, Its interesting that people would think he might be that missing piece to some teams who are only a QB away. Yet fans around here think he sucks and is the problem and that getting a new QB would be the best thing for this team. I believe getting rid of him would put us in the same position as the teams who want him, and that is teams that are in real need of a QB. We would then just become one of those teams too, and we would have an owner with a terrible record at finding even decent QB's.

This jives with what I've been told. Those within the Bengals have told me Palmer approaches it like you or I approach our jobs. He shows up, does what he has to do to collect his paycheck, and leaves. They said they don't get the feeling Palmer really even likes football. He views it solely as his job, and once he's accumulated enough money, he's out.

 

I don't think I can believe that. I mean if that is true, and if he is set financially. Then why even worry about getting traded, just go ahead and retire and don't worry about trying to get traded. He might not like playing here in Cincy, but I doubt it's because he does not like playing.

No, "ignorant" was chosen very carefully; lack of knowledge definitely applies to anyone that tries to blame one player in the game of football that takes a cohesive group of 11 to succeed is demonstrating a complete lack of knowledge about the game of football; anyone that fails to recognize the failings of the Bengal O-line, the fear of Ocho and TO across the middle, the mistakes of the rookies Shipley and Gresham, the subpar performance of the defense, and the failings of Special Teams is not aware of what happened this season; of course Carson had bad plays too and is culpable as well, but to simply say "Carson sucks" is overgeneralizing and oversimplifying the problems of the '10 Bengals.

 

Give Carson the Patriot, Colt, or Jet o-line and he would be a different player; part of his problem is he was shell-shocked; look at how Brady flinched after just one half of moderate pressure by the Jets and a few sacks; now multiply that by 8-10-12 games; it is a wonder Palmer didn't end up on the IR; (please don't cite sack numbers; there is so much more to pressure than just sacks- hits, hurries, knockdowns also count BIG TIME to a QB in the pocket).

You go with a rehearsed press release for the story if you want. I highly doubt Mortensen made up the possible retirement. As close to the vest as Carson plays everything I believe that his camp is the "leak" to espn.

I don't recall anyone put sole blame on CP. But when you're the franchise, #1 draft pick, face of the organiztion, umpteen million dollar QB, and you did not perform up to those standards, you are 1st in line when judgement is being made. Like it or not a QBs career is judged on wins and losses. And Carson's record in not quite stellar. Not totally his fault, I think we all agree to that, but he is the man on this team.

Let's also remember that Carson has had a hand in shaping his team. TO came here in large part because Palmer pushed for it. Reggie Kelly, a non pass catching TE, is on this roster because Palmer loves him. Then everyone complains about not having a TE who can catch a pass. Well, when Palmer begs for the TE who doesn't catch passes to be signed. Brat gets grief over play calling yet Palmer probably changes 10 plays a game at the line. Who knows ... maybe he should have stuck with the play Brat called? Why did Palmer become a statue in the pocket who never scrambles or tries to run for a few yards? Early in his career, he ran enough to keep teams honest.

 

The point is, although the QB is one of 53 on an NFL roster, a QB like Palmer has tremendous impact on the team so he needs to shoulder the blame much more than any other player. Palmer is part of the problem here and he needs to get much better if he wants to win a playoff game.

Yesterday Mortensen made up the story about Lebeau not coming back to the Steelers next season, which Lebeau promptly dismissed last night...
