As far as Palmer goes, keep looking at the situation in a vacum if you want; there is so much more to football!

I don't recall anyone put sole blame on CP. But when you're the franchise, #1 draft pick, face of the organiztion, umpteen million dollar QB, and you did not perform up to those standards, you are 1st in line when judgement is being made. Like it or not a QBs career is judged on wins and losses. And Carson's record in not quite stellar. Not totally his fault, I think we all agree to that, but he is the man on this team.

 

No one can accurately assess football by looking at one position; it would be no different than saying the defense stunk because the MLB had a bad year- too many more factors; all the other things you mention mean absolutely nothing when evaluating a TEAM accurately!!!!

Let's also remember that Carson has had a hand in shaping his team. TO came here in large part because Palmer pushed for it. Reggie Kelly, a non pass catching TE, is on this roster because Palmer loves him. Then everyone complains about not having a TE who can catch a pass. Well, when Palmer begs for the TE who doesn't catch passes to be signed. Brat gets grief over play calling yet Palmer probably changes 10 plays a game at the line. Who knows ... maybe he should have stuck with the play Brat called? Why did Palmer become a statue in the pocket who never scrambles or tries to run for a few yards? Early in his career, he ran enough to keep teams honest.

 

The point is, although the QB is one of 53 on an NFL roster, a QB like Palmer has tremendous impact on the team so he needs to shoulder the blame much more than any other player. Palmer is part of the problem here and he needs to get much better if he wants to win a playoff game.

 

Palmer was definitely wrong about TO; he wanted Kelly because of his run-blocking and pass-blocking ability (what does everyone complaining have to do wtih accurately assessing this team?)

 

It doesn't matter who called the play; all 11 need to execute.

 

Palmer doesn't scramble (he doesn't have time) and neither do Manning or Brady, so that means nothing when evaluating a QB; everyone is enamored with a scrambling QB now because of Rodgers and Roethlisberger; plenty of games and Super Bowls have been won without scrambling.

 

One player absolutely does NOT need to shoulder the blame when the others impact his performance directly; there is no logic in that!!! No QB in the history of the NFL would have taken this Bengal team to the playoffs this season; it is just easy and convenient to blame the QB without any thought!

I didn't hear the story, but Lebeau's contract is up and Arizona will try to persue him.

Just trying to explain to you why the QB is held accountable. I have stated many times that the Bengals are full of holes. Doesn't change the fact that if the guy that handles every offensive snap, is not performing well, then he's going to be looked at 1st.

That is true. I'm stilling having a problem with the coaching staff coming out of this past season unscathed. Not too many staffs are left fully intact after a 4-12 season.

I have a huge problem with it. I been wanting Bratkowski gone since the 2007 season, and he definitely should have been gone after the 2008 season when they finished dead last in the NFL in offense. Yes they didn't have Palmer, but they had Chad, TJ, Chris Henry, and Benson. Would have thought they could have at least been better than did last, but Fitzpatrick looked terrible here. Then he goes to Buffalo with less talent, and even though I won't say he is a good QB. He does look 10 times better than he did here. This offensive system is just horrible, and any other franchise would have made a change after that season. Yet for someone reason we haven't, and once again it looks like we are not. If I am an offensive player, I wouldn't want to be here. Shoot if I was a defensive player I wouldn't want to either, knowing that the offense probably will struggle again with the same offensive coaches here.

Every time I see someone mention Bratkowski being gone, I will mention Paul Alexander must be let go. I am not saying Bratkowski shouldn't be gone but I want Alexander to get some well deserved heat. Think about this. The Bengals have stunk it up for about 20 years now. Paul Alexander, our offensive line coach and ASSISTANT HEAD COACH, has been here 17 years. Hmmmmm ....

The amount of time their offensive coaches have been here has to set a record. Even if they were really good you would expect some departures and it never hurts to have new ideas coming from new people.

He gets far more blame than any other player. It's not that Palmer doesn't deserve blame it's that it's hard to expect Brown to find anyone better.
