I believe that Holmes would be more competitive in 6a than Campbell County will be. I also think Lickert might have stayed at Holmes if they weren't thrown in the new district they will play in. I haven't heard this from the Camels mouth, but I think the Holmes job became far less attractive after realigment.

To be fair it seems to be only one Campbell person spouting off about the hire on here, and reading between the lines of past post on here it's most likely the same individual that posted the stuff on the Enquirer blog. That individual for some reason has a huge axe to grind. Heres looking at you UKFAN4EVER. :idunno:

Yes he did after his second year Holmes moved to 4. Being a coach at Holmes is not just about football alot more stuff you half to handle then at lets say CC.

They won't admit it, but I you are dead on. From the people I talked with, some out there absolutely hate HHS guys and the program they came from. To each their own. Hopefully, they locals give him a chance to show what he can do. Congrats Coach Lickert!

How long will Lickert stay at Campbell County? I believe that is what some are thinking in the County.

This is the real question? He took a Holmes program to the next level. Highlands Job is locked up for a long time? So how long will he say? Hopefully a long time, the Camels deserve to have a winning program.

To put the John Schlarman move to Newport into perspective, John moved to 2A Newport when the state was still classified in a 4 class system. In the 4 class system, Newport was 2A with Lloyd, Mercer County, Henry County, Spencer County, and North Oldham. Class 2A in the 4 class system was a great place to be and compete. Fast forward to the 6 class system, Newport is now in a district with NCC, Holy Cross, Bishop Brossart and Lloyd. Does John make this move from CC to Newport now in a 6 class system? I think not, but I cannot speak for him. Newport gave him a better chance to win state championships in the 4 class system.

 

Also, the 6 class system was in place for a 2 year alignment (2007 and 2008). It was then re-evaluated by the KHSAA and the KHSAA moved many teams that had significant enrollment increases or decreases for the second 2 year alignment (2009 and 2010). Bryan Station is one team that moved from 5A to 6A because of increased enrollment during the adjustment period. Holmes moved to it's correct classification of 4A in January before the start of the second 2 year alignment, because the enrollment numbers justified a move to 4A. The administration did the right thing for the kids of Covington. Holmes is still 4A and if the state ever uses a free and reduced lunch diviser to decide final enrollment (per Ohio's proposal and Minnesota), Holmes will probably move to 3A or even 2A in the next re-alignment considering over 80% of the students at Holmes are classified as free and reduced lunch.

I suppose that is one way to look at it.

 

However, my best guess is there has been more coaching turnover at Campbell County than any school in Northern Kentucky other than Ludlow. Certainly Campbell County has had more turnover than the other larger NKY schools that they are trying to complete with. Something is wrong when you have that much turnover. I don't folllow basketball that closely, but I believe their head basketball coach has been a revolving door as well.

I hope Coach Lickert realizes that if a modern day Knute Rockne was hired, there would still be a "small number" of narrow-minded wannabes complaining that their candidate wasn't chosen. Mark Perry would have been an excellent choice as well. However, Stephen Lickert's enthusiasm for inspiring kids and developing football programs is infectious.

 

This is a great hire for Campbell County! This is now his program arm-chair QB's, please give the guy a chance. He has been an absolute winner at every level and his success will quiet the naysayers if given a fair opportunity. Coach Lickert is a quality person and as a Camel fan, I am embarrassed that he needs to be subjected to the unwarranted negativity generated on BGP's and other blogs.

I couldn't have said it better. Being a guy that used to put on the helmet and cleats for the camels (many years ago) it is what cambell needed. He is a proven winner and will do great for program in its entirety. It seems like no matter what "we" get no one is ever happy about it. I think its just a matter of time before you start seeing that bandwagon getting full. Go CAMELS!

Congratulations to the CC football team. Coach L seems to be bringing a winning tradition with him. Also with his history of the FTJRFL and CC starting there own league and counting on red devils for his only feeder program watch for him to get more involed with that just like Dale does in ft thomas. Great hire just wish it was a little earlier so he could have gotten started in the weight room sooner.

It seems everyone else has all the negative comments. As for the HHS comments, doesn't everyone that is not a Highlands fan dislike them. I dislike Highlands, because we can't compete with them. At our games when the half time scores are announced, and Highlands is losing at the half in their game, I see both sides fans cheer. It's not just a Campbell County thing. I look at it as cudos to Highlands. I believe they have a great program, and a stellar coaching staff. I have never referred to the Highlands Football Program, except with the up most respect, as I believe is the case with most people I talk with. I still dislike them, but that doesn't mean I don't respect their program.

Hopefully our new coach can change the not competing part.

I wasn't just referring to BGPs. When the announcement was made on NKY.com and other media sources, a "small contingent" immediately jumped on the naysayer bandwagon. I agree with your assessment of Highlands. It really boils down to the bully in the alley (in a good way) that no one can beat (well.....almost no one)! I have a great respect for their program as well.
