January 11, 201115 yr I think the diffrence right now in the SEC and other schools is not the star athletes on offense but the interior on defense. The defensive linemen and linebackers in the SEC are faster and more athletic than anywhere else in the country IMO. That is where this game was won/lost. It is hard to run that zone read offense when you have a NFL caliber DT you are trying to read that can play both options. Notice how Oregon could commit to slow down Newton running the football but had to give up Dyer on the Dive. JMO
January 11, 201115 yr Games like this are what national championships should be. Although in a losing effort, Oregon played good and they were able to move the ball in different ways. Auburn's defense against the run was huge. I figured James of Oregon would have a challenge, but never expected him to have under fifty yards for the whole game, which was likely one of the bigger contributors to Auburn winning.

The DL play makes it a lot more difficult to get the mismatches that scheme requires. I can only assume the thought going in to the game was that Oregon knew they could not block Fairley, so they decided to base their reads off him. That is fine against some ** or *** DT from Washington State, but not against anyone that good. I picked Oregon, but a few minutes in to the game I could tell I made a mistake. I knew they had no shot of putting up a lot of points. I still contend this was the weakest SEC foe to reach the BCS title game with a hideous defense and they were still able to prevail. I would assume this is statistically the worst defensive team to win the BCS trophy.
