Any bandbox gyms left?

For the old Falmouth school, and St. Henry's...can somebody give me specific locations where these are located at? (I know where the new schools are, but can't picture the old ones.)

Gotcha. St. Henry had the double half court line. You used the one farthest from your basket.

Hated playing there, nowhere to go and that halfcourt mess caused many turnovers. Augusta was really cool though. I remember dodging bats running down the court. Lol

I was in the Phelps gym once back in the mid 70s. Is it still in use?

Eminence. Complete with obstructed view seating.
Don't forget the Shasta!!!!

I was in St. Henry's gym not that long ago. It would definately not meet building code now. The visitors locker room has only the one way out and don't forget the stage right in the middle. The players benches were small sets of bleachers 2-3 rows high.
And the site of what I consider the greatest All 'A' 8th Regional Tornament game ever played. JMHO.
Is that the one I'm thinking of in recent memory??

It would be.

Heritage Academy I believe has a gym with the balcony...

I was there last month for the first time. It's a very small gym, and I don't recall any balcony.

St. Patrick in Maysville is a true bandbox gym.

Before the renovation a checkered line was placed three feet inside the court to allow an inbounder space to make an entry pass.

It was really a classic when the game clock was a clock-face with dials. When it turned red there was a minute left to play in the period.

Didn't even think about mentioning that in the title thread...but, I'm looking for that as well! Anybody know of any others that are still around?

Used to play (well, mostly sat) rec ball in the old Lewisburg and Germantown gyms. Always had to watch for the dead spots on the floor.

Fancy Farm's gym (since consolidated wih 6 or 7 schools into Graves County) was like that. Goals mounted on the walls. Had the checkered lines at the end for throw ins. When you took the ball out as soon as you threw the ball in you were already standing in bounds so they could throw it right back to you. Had the double half court line. Also had main stands on one side. The stage for the school was on the other sideline side with team benches in front of it (kind of like old St. Henry gym) except they put a few risers with fans in them right behind the benches on the stage so they were right on top of you on the bench. Also had the listing of all the player names up on a sign at one end. Only about 4 or 5 different last names (generally only the first names changed each year with a small school with a lot of big families).

At the gym at Heath we had one of the old round clocks mentioned in one of the posts (with the moving hand not digital) that lit up for the last minute of each period until about the mid '70s. very confusing for teams not used to it.

They renovated it a couple of years ago, but I remember a balcony, but it was like a open hallway for the school itself.

Campbellsville high school gym has that old time feel.

There is an old gym in Corbin, probably from the 30's. I think I was there once for a middle school game but not sure what they use it for today.
