Augusta is my favorite gym to coach in EVER!!! Feel like I am in the movie Hoosiers and telling the players to run the picket fence.

I'm not sure on an exact date, but the gym at Monticello is undoubtedly the oldest in the 12th Region. I would think it dates from at least the '30s, although I can't say that for sure.

There is an old gym in Corbin, probably from the 30's. I think I was there once for a middle school game but not sure what they use it for today.

They use Edwards Gym for the Corbin middle school teams now. Also Hazel Green High School's gym and London High School's gyms are still in use by Laurel County Elementary teams.

Gotta claim ignorance here...but what's a "bandbox" gym?

Think "Hoosiers".

No sure this gym is old enough to qualify as a band box gym, but how about St. Thomas in Fort Thomas? The court sits down and the fans are above the benches. pretty different set up! High school size court from when they were a high school up to the late 70's.

Great thread ! Bellevue High School had the true Bandbox Gym up until 1985 when they converted it tof a cafeteria on the side of the stands. We played our Jr High games there, the lockers were under the stands. Its really hard to believe they used those for High School games back through the 60's. I believe they built the Ben Flora Gymnasium in 1970 where they installed the old rubber floor. I played my youth league games there, if you dove for a ball you weren't sliding much. Thato must have been a 70's era thing because they finally installed wood in 1983 I believe.
