If you are refering to St. H's old gym on Dixie hwy. They don't play varsity games there any more. Don't know about Beechwood, but I think the thread is asking for gyms still in use.

I am stating the true definition of a "bandbox" and using those three as examples. Brossart and Silver Grove would be palaces compared to those three I mentioned. :thumb:

Morgan Co's old gym, now the Rec Center. Has a balcony that went around 3/4 of the gym. You get in one of the corners and try and shoot a 3 and you are most likely to hit the bottom of the balcony.

Whomever built that gym must have built the one at the old Falmouth High School. Sounds like a complete match with it. The one in Falmouth is still used sometimes for practice.

Gotcha. St. Henry had the double half court line. You used the one farthest from your basket.

Beechwood's old gym is now a library, but I think St Henry's gym is still in use by the grade school.

For the old Falmouth school, and St. Henry's...can somebody give me specific locations where these are located at? (I know where the new schools are, but can't picture the old ones.)

What I'm thinking of is those tiny gyms that had an overhanging balcony on one or both sides of the gym, where the crowd literally, was on top of each other. Many times there's a stage at one end. There's also usually not a lot of "extra" space outside of the court.

SK & Dixie both had old gyms that were unique. I'm not sure if they're currently used or not, but I know that as of 10 years ago there were middle school / AAU games going on there.

I loved the old Dixie gym! They built classrooms in that space. I think that was 8 or 9 years ago.

It's been over 20 years since I've been in Holmes High School, but I don't remember it having a balcony. A second level, yes...but a balcony that overhangs a lower level, no. Or is my mind playing tricks on me?!?

The old Falmouth school is on Chapel street in Falmouth. It is still owned by the Pendleton school system and is used everyday. Also Kincaid theater uses the gym for plays it does in the summer. There is a stage on one side of the gym floor and some seating on the other side and on the ends. From the balcony you have to be on the rail and look over to watch the games.

The worst designed gym that I have ever seen was the old Fleming Co Gym. It was designed like an inground swimming pool that sit down about 8 feet from the bleachers and then they had a second floor of bleachers. The walls around the playing floor were oval and teams sat on the ends. It was a nightmare to play there.
