Bengals Offseason Thread

Featured Replies

I do love the core of this team. Another draft this year as they had last year and they may have very well turned this team around by luck. The easier schedule will certainly help. I really don't see as many glaring holes on this team as I usually do. That's why I really don't know who to draft, but that is a good problem to have. They could just go best available, which should be a very good player at the four spot. The most glaring hole on this team is the coaches/owner which everyone already knows, and not even all the coaches are terrible. If Mike Brown was really smart he would know with a few tweaks that this team could be a contender for sure, BUT that would cost a few dollars. THAT is why everyone is fed up with this team.

Mike Brown--"We need to stay the course"...........Translated--It's cheaper to do so, and we've got the "loser's schedule" next year, so we can fool the sheep into buying tickets again!!

While I agree with you the trend has been for fans to not buy tickets. They needed an extension the whole second half of last season and they won the division. They needed an extension for their first game this year and it was against Batlimore coming off of a year the Bengals had just won the division.

I'd hope they franchise JJoe, draft Peterson, & let Ced walk, and sign a FA RB. Listed below are the FA RB's in 2011....Quite a few really good options available.

Joey Addai

Cedric Benson

Ahmad Bradshaw

Ronnie Brown

Michael Bush

BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Darrin Sproles

Pierre Thomas

Cadillac Williams

DeAngelo Williams

Ricky Williams

I don't understand that line of thinking...why bring in a new guy who the Bengals still have to pay and let a known commodity in Benson leave????? The only ones on here I see being Benson's equal or better have serious injury concerns!

They would be loaded at CB wouldn't they haha Hall, JJ, Jones, and Peterson. But i agree in signing a RB. I would love a guy like the law firm or somebody like that to pair with Scott. Get a good team player instead of an ego guy so they can have a little thunder and lightening in the back field. I wouldn't even mind drafting a player like Clay, just a beast of a RB to pair with the quickness of Scott. I thought Scott showed some glimpses last year.

I think running back is one of the easiest positions to fill in the NFL. Unless you have one of the really elite players like a Chris Johnson, it is easy to find a RB. So if they let Benson walk, I'm ok with it. Get the best value at RB.

I agree with doing what they need to keep Joseph; I even think Peterson could play Safety; he is 222 lbs!

Benson has been their best performer the last 2 years and I don't know why you think he is an "ego guy???"

I am sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean for people to think that I thought Benson is a ego guy. I just mean they could spend the money at other positions, just need a compliment power guy with Scott that is familar to a complimentary role.

Well for one, Benson doesn't want to be in Cincy. He wants no part of Bratkowski. It's not about if the Bengals want Ced, it's about if he wants them, and from all indications, he doesn't. If they waste the franchise tag on him, they're morons.

I don't buy the story about Benson not liking Brat; he is the coordinator who called the plays in '09 when they were a run-first team.

I don't like Brat and never have; I hope he goes!!!

Personally, I would take Benson over everyone else on that list. If it is decided Benson will not be back, only Bradshaw and maybe Bush would be a good fit. Everyone else on the list is either past their prime or injury prone.

Benson has said a few times this year that he did not like what they were doing on offense. He kept trying to make a point at the end of the year, on how they should have been running the ball year. He has said he won't be back unless there are some changes with how the Bengals do things. Which once again most likely comes back to the offense, and him thinking they didn't run it enough. The guy who calls the plays is Bratkowski. So how do you not buy that he does not like how Brat runs the offense? Many people have said things about Brat, current players, and former players. So I don't see how you don't think its not about Benson not liking Brat. Since basically no player has backed Bratkowski, and all we haev heard was some players take shots at him.

IMO, Bratkowski will be gone after the Senior Bowl. But it doesn't really matter as long as Mike Brown is running this team. When Katie inherits the team she will have to hire a GM then MAYBE things will change. But of course the Bengals rank 10th in the league in regards to playing time of players they drafted over the last 10 years..... unreal stupidity.

Brad Childress met with Marvin last night according to Joe Reedy. Childress was in the running for the Rams Offensive coordinator spot along with another team.

I never thought much of Childress as a coordinator. Everybody knows Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg have been the offensive minds of the Eagles.
