Smoking Ban Passed in Campbell County

Featured Replies

I'm not sure what places you guys are avoiding since the majority of places in NKY already are smoke free.

Mainstrasse in Covington is not smoke free (Kenton Co, though). The Southgate House is not smoke free.

The Levee is smoke free, though.

Let's see here:

1. Public intoxication is a crime.

2. Driving under the influence of alcohol is a crime.

3. Child and spousal abuse are crimes.

So the overwhelming majority of your post contains a bunch of unfounded & inaccurate attempts at analogies.

And you obviously missed the point of the post.

I was stating that it simply happens. Does that mean we should ban it because it makes people uncomfortable?

Another prissie law. What we need is for owners of establishments to be allowed to make up their own minds if they want to ban smoking in their place. They know their clientele and should be the ones that make the decision.

I know, crazy concept...

While I thoroughly enjoy smoke-free establishments I fully agree with you.

Make the entire planet smoke free, wouldn't bother me one bit.

I don't think Bars should have to ban smoking. I totally understand it in restaurants.
That's the one area where I disagree with the law. I think bars should be exempt, since smoking is such a large part of the culture in that setting.
People that are for this ban are in favor because of uncomfortableness.
Not even close. Actually, they're just really fond of staying alive...and studies show that breathing has a big effect on a person's ability to do so.

I did a paper on pros and cons of smoking bans and there were a number of resturants and bars mostly that lost a good amount of business because of it in some places.

Sure it makes some people uncomfortable but like both my wife and daughter it makes some people sick too!

I guess we should ban alcohol as well. People that are for this ban are in favor because of uncomfortableness. Well it makes me extremely uncomfortable when I go into a bar and someone is drunk where they can't speak properly. It makes me extremely uncomfortable when I am on the road and a drunk driver who puts my life at risk as well as others because alcohol consumption. It makes me uncomfortable to hear about a child or spouse that gets beaten from an alcoholic family member.

Bars and restaurants are privately funded for the most part. This is ridiculous.

So privately funded places should able to make up their own rules? Minors could be served? They can stay open all night if they wanted? They could continue to serve an obviously drunk person about to drive? Some laws are put into place for the protection of people. Whether it be someone else or yourself.

This is the kind of "hype" the pro ban folks do. They compare smoking in a bar to an actual crime! Really,,, driving drunk being compared to smoking?

You do have the choice not to go in a place that allows smoking.

Believe it to be hype or believe it to be reality. My Mom had emphysema before she passed and dad had to have a leg removed due to poor circulation caused by.....you guessed it! Smoking! It's not a crime (yet), but it harms the smoker and those around it. Trust me, this one was hard for me to support being as conservative as I am. It just hits too close to home and facts are facts.

Were they smokers or do you mean from second hand smoke?

You are saying ban it because it harms you and the people around it. I assume you are for everything that potentially harms people, that is why I wrote post #15.
