Bingo! I don't smoke (except for an occasional cigar at home), I don't like being around cigarette smoke too long but I'm not going to tell people they have no right to smoke in establishments that allow it and I think it's absurd to tell any business owner they can't allow their customers smoke if they wish to. Plain and simple, it should be up to the owner.

Smokers can choose to go to the restaurant and eat.

Just as nonsmokers had to make a choice on whether they wanted to eat that food and then have to inhale cigarette smoke, now smokers have to make the choice on whether they want to eat and not smoke.

Your choice to patronize the restaurant is still there.

The EXACT choice that they are complaining about is the SAME CHOICE that is now being denied them.

It was okay when it benefited them and now it is wrong when it is against them.

 

The choice is whether you can go to the restaurant in an atmosphere that is pleasurable to enjoy a meal.

 

For non-smokers, it was without having to put up with the smell of cigarette smoke and having to inhale it and even health risks for those allergic to it.

For smokers, it is being able to have a cigaretter after the meal.

 

Whether you go one way or the other, someone is going to be denied what they wish when they go out to eat.

 

The final straw is the health risk issue that smoking puts on those that don't smoke. And even more so when it is an allergic reaction problem.

To me it is not as much about the smokers vs. non-smokers as it is telling the owners of a restaurant what they can and cannot do. A parallel can be drawn between building codes, health codes, etc., but I do not think it is a strong one.

I think society has a history on telling business owners on who they are allowed to serve and not serve in this country. Or at least since the middle of last century. Seems that ship has left the proverbial dock.

Your right, I didn't explain my point very well and kind of got off my main problem with these bans. I could care less about the customer. What irks me is the choice to allow it is taken away from the owners. If you as a non smoker don't want to be around it and I as a bar owner allow smoking you don't have to come in.

Another prissie law. What we need is for owners of establishments to be allowed to make up their own minds if they want to ban smoking in their place. They know their clientele and should be the ones that make the decision.

Smoking is so nasty.

Being people are going to do it I say raise the price to 100 bucks a pac and use the tax money to fix some of the problems in the country.

 

Also make it a law smoking is only permitted in your home with the doors and windows shut.

Make it a thousand dollar fine the first time the law is beoken and add a 1,000 for each additional time the smoker breaks the law. Use that money to help out the schools and other problems in this country.
