I don't hate anything but satan. I posted the numbers of how well the privates have done in the past 10 years Coach Beatty has beaten the public schools 59 straight games. I also stated I was told there were sponsers, I might even read that in the C-J, I didn't put it out, I said I was told and I know some kids who are at Trinity and wondered how that happened due to my knowledge of their status.

 

Tony Driver was before my son went to Male so I have no info about that one. I haven't said anything "shady" about anyone. I asked the Rock fans how would you feel if you were in our shoes, when I complained about the kids from different counties a few years ago I was told the "Publics need to try harder."

We have no control over the fact that the JCPS does not allow students from counties neighboring Jefferson to attend. How is that our fault? In a metro area like Louisville, with the ease of transportation between counties such as Shelby, Oldham and Bullitt I don't see any reason there shouldn't be a reciprocal agreement. Especially since many in those counties work in Louisville. That particular issue however are not the fault of Trinity and St.X. It is noticeable that Male has been more restrictive on their enrollment policies than in the past, which is one of the reasons the talent level has dropped from the glory days of Ol' Red. Again however, we have no control over that. I could understand some unhappiness regarding Indiana folks being impact players, but those aren't that common. In fact I only know of one recently and he played for X. Things swing both ways though. Trinity was not particularly good in the mid-late 90's.

 

To call it unfair is disingenuous. Unfair indicates that there are no possibilities for one to compete. There are plenty of those for the JCPS, however the JCPS administrators (and their counterparts in the metro area) are not willing to allow the kind of open borders. If I am running in a footrace and I see that one of my opponents is wearing a weighted boot, should I do the same because he imposed that upon himself?

Where did Tony Driver grow up? Who did he live with while going to Male? How old was he when he graduated? I know the answer to all three.

 

Might be a little off since I don't know his DOB. Driver lived in Glasgow and in Hardin Co. (on a side note Joey Stocken lived in Glasgow and then Hardin Co). He lived with a coach. If I had to guess on age it would be 19 when he graduated because other wise we would not be allowed to play his SR year.

 

There are parts of the state where having players 18 at the start of the season is very common. The players are held back. Its just a fact.

 

Trinity (among other privates) does have a series of advantages and to say other wise is just being blind. They also have a number of disadvantages. Public schools have some very different disadvantages than privates. It is not as simple as some would like to make it out to be. Its the nature of the beast right now.

I thought that students that lived outside of Jefferson County could attend a public school in Jefferson County. I knew of someone living in Oldham County that went to school at an east end public school. I believe, though, that they had to pay some sort of tuition?

Ok, I'm a man I can admit if I've ben told wrong. But how do kids get into the school if they cannot afford it. I was told sponsers, now if I'm wrong for repeating this I'm sorry, but how do they get their schooling paid?

Parents-2

Parent's Salaries-Mom-25,000.00; Dad-25,000.00-Combined: $50,000.

Assume they live modestly: Reasonable mortgage, a used car, etc.

Assume the tuition is $10K

Assume they receive a need based tuition assistance award of $1500. Tuition is now $8500/year

Assume they make their payments over 12 months to the school (lowers the cost/month): Tuition is now $708.33/month

 

As you can see, a family can afford the tuition if the family chooses to live modestly, foregoing new cars, a bigger house, eating out, expensive vacations, tons of new clothes, etc.

 

From my own personal experience, I personally made less than $40K when paying tuition, and worked 2 jobs to do make that. And for 2 years I had 2 kids in 2 different schools...couldn't even get the "family" discount. :lol:

 

You cannot look at a situation and say "there's no way they could afford that". You have no idea. Maybe they've been saving for years and have a good chunk put away already for the tuition. Maybe they've foregone a lot of luxuries they could have had. Maybe they don't have that big screen HDTV.

Ok, I'll be honest. T was 31 pts. better than H at the half this year. I'll be even more honest: H was not in the top 6 of 6A teams in KY this year (X, Ryle, HC, SK, Manual all better than H), despite being state runner-up. More honesty: Ryle would beat Male by 20 pts. And the final bit of honesty: T has a fantastic Soph & Jr class, but historically their athletes, man-for-man are no better than H, Manual, and sometimes Ballard, Fern Creek or Eastern. T has a much better scheme that they put tons (aka "more") time into perfecting and it is incredibly difficult for teams to prepare for when they are used to preparing for teams who do NOT put the man-hours into their scheme that T does. Truthfully it is much better for T that folks continue to complain instead of adapt. IMO Ballard is going to be the next public power because I think they have a coach that understands this.

Without a DOB that doesn't mean much. KHSAA rule is as long as you turn 19 after Aug first your fine to play. I knew the living with a coach was an issue and that was his freshman year (93-94). Never heard any issue brought up about his age.

I want my 16 year old to go to Trinity to further his education and his athletic experience. Will he A. be turned down. B. Simple go for free or C. will tuition be covered by some other means?

Rockmom, we have 65" baby in the Bama cave, and its fun. OK, around and around we go, so I repeated a lot of things I've mentioned in the past, it is what it is, the past four years I have no kids at Male, but there is one coming soon. I'll admit I haven't investigated Trinity and a lot of things are what I'm hearing from others. Bottom______________________, The publics the last ten years have one or two Championships, and it doesn't look good in the future and I think something needs to be done.

 

So again Congrats to the Rocks, there are good kids on the team that works very hard and they shouldn't be held to any bad feelings. I have spoken to Tim/Jordan in the past and they were really nice guys and I hope they do very well.

you would apply for financial aid & work study & hope to qualify for the maximum amount of aid, which would be 50% of the cost of the tuition. you would be responsible for the rest of the bill...I have 5 siblings & we all went to catholic schools

I echo almost vebartim what you post. I'm one of 4 kids. My mom didn't work. My dad never made more than 22K in his entire working life. I went through 12 years of Catholic school. For 2 years in the 70's, my parents had two in Catholic grade school while my father was out of work after losing his job when his place of employment closed. We shopped at the DAV/Goodwill, etc. And don't even get me started on the lime green Nova my mom drove. It was a 5 speed, on the column, and the gears would stick. So every time that we stopped, my mom would have to get out of the car, pop the hood and reach under to pop the gears. We lived in the same house from the time I was 5 until they moved after I graduated. There were no family vacations, but the kids spent the summers at the grandparents', cousins, etc. People say it can't be done.

 

It can be done.
