RockMom, I played at Iroquois. I have two sons who went to Atherton. Not football hotbeds, I want to win, yes, Its a human nature thing. Do you remember the late 60s/early 70s with UCLA winning the NCAAs almost every year? People like change, I said put yourselves in our shoes, not live in them. The numbers don't lie, fiftyeight straight is a lot. When my son was at Male I went to almost every practice for four years, I worked the fields/chains/ my wife was team mom with other ladies, we sold things, fed the team, brought treats on hot days.

AL do you have any problems at all with the disparity between Male and the public schools that were mentioned by myself and RM? To say that they don't exist would be at best disingenuous and at worst simply ignoring it.

Back to the thread.....good job Male for making it to the finals.

We have a Cadillac, with a sunroof, and more. Its paid for.

 

ALLTELL, I mentioned where I/sons went to school and we support those schools for years. Male has lost to Central/Ballard/Manual/Eastern/Butler/ and had narrow wins against many others. They also lost in the four years my son went there to John Hardin/Central Hardin/Trinity/ in the playoffs. Male has also lost to Meade County. So I wasn't ignoring it at all, it serves my point very well if we compared scores. Very few runnning clocks for Male They also barely won over Floyd Central this past year who ended up having a very good team.

This has run it's course. Congrats Rocks, Dawgs, see you in district play next year.

People choose to send their kids to schools for an overall package. Why would I want to send my kids to a T or X. Not only are they good football schools, but I would love to see average SAT scores, attendance, teacher/student ratio, and percentage of seniors who attend college. I would venture to say these two schools are way above average to other Louisville schools. Now if they can afford it, is a different matter. I would love my kids to go to Harvard, Notre Dame, or Stanford, but more than likely they are going to an in-state university because that is what I can afford. I could sell my house, cars, possesions and move into my parents house to send them there, but that is not going to happen. There are schools that have built in advantages no denying that. But why would we penalize schools for being too good. X and T are in a different league with enrollment. We can not set up a separate class just for them two and there are not enough schools to create a Catholic league so we play the cards we are dealt. Excellence breeds excellence and as long as the T, X's, and Highlands are excellent schools with excellent football programs, student athletes are going to want to go there. It is going to take a dynamic coach who comes into a public school and turns them consistently into a winner to build the program from the ground up. Boyle County is a great example of that. I didn't even know they had a football program until the 90's.

I think the variance becomes way to wide if you are allowed to provide full need based financial aid to attend a private institution, or be allwed to have alumni pay for student athletes to attend through a sponsorship. However, as I suspected, , I am sure that 50% is the max aid available. As far as sponsorship goes, I am still surprised how long it took for someone to say that simply isn't true, because if it is, it is a rules violation. AL must have been wrong, or there is a serious problem. As far as giving up football to further that mission, I know many Trinity people, and I don't believe that is a realistic statement.
