Some disagreements with their Franchisees. My opinion, but I like Aglameise Brothers ice cream the best. Graeter's on Reading Road will still be going strong.

You know I was one of the people who never understood why people would pay that much for ice cream, but once I tried Graeters coconut chip, I knew why. It really is a shame, because not only is a business closing, but people are losing their jobs as well. My daughter has worked there for over 2 years, and she found out on Monday, that her last day would be the next day, Tuesday. I am sure she will find something else, but still in this day and age, you always hate to see any business close.

A LOT of those cheap brands you are paying for a lot more AIR! Plus less butter fat and quality ingredients, as well as paying for flavor and not the actually the real ingrediant, such as vanilla or chocholate flavor Vs actual vanilla or chocolate.

Not really going out of business, just ending the franchise agreement and most if not all stores will reopen, as ckshockey stated their were issues between Graeters and the franchisee, and the franchisee owns most of the buildings and others they are the renter, not the Graeters corp. Graeters has said they are committed in returning to NKY in a few months as well as trying to open up in the same stores.

I know the Louisville Franchisee well and the costs to make the stuff is very high, the high fat dairy product is very expensive plus premium chocolate and others.

 

If you weight a gallon if Graeters vs low end grocery brand there is a hugh difference.

You get what you pay for? Personally, I think a lot of purchases are stupid to me but can understand why it is not to other people. I would never pay $5 for a cup of coffee or $50,000 for a new car, but people do all the time. I don't buy Graeter's by the gallon but I do take the kids for a cone after some of their events. And also the free dip for A's on their report card.

I honestly like Aglamesis Bros. and Graeter's about the same, but I know Rich Graeter so I didn't tell you that. :lol:

 

I've been impressed with how cordial the folks at Graeter's have been about this whole thing. The NKY franchisee is acting like corporate just gave their franchise the axe, and that's not the case. What it came down to was the franchisee trying to take advantage of a pretty gracious franchisor. The folks at corporate have been relatively tight-lipped about everything and are just saying, "We're hoping to have as many NKY locations back open as soon as possible", but was done was needed in order for Graeter's corporate to maintain healthy business practice.

 

I wouldn't worry too much about the stores being closed, though. I'm pretty positive with as much ice cream as they have coming out of their new manufacturing plant that they're going to have those stores back open in no time. After all, what company wouldn't make their product available to half of their "home town"?
