I honestly like Aglamesis Bros. and Graeter's about the same, but I know Rich Graeter so I didn't tell you that. :lol:

 

I've been impressed with how cordial the folks at Graeter's have been about this whole thing. The NKY franchisee is acting like corporate just gave their franchise the axe, and that's not the case. What it came down to was the franchisee trying to take advantage of a pretty gracious franchisor. The folks at corporate have been relatively tight-lipped about everything and are just saying, "We're hoping to have as many NKY locations back open as soon as possible", but was done was needed in order for Graeter's corporate to maintain healthy business practice.

 

I wouldn't worry too much about the stores being closed, though. I'm pretty positive with as much ice cream as they have coming out of their new manufacturing plant that they're going to have those stores back open in no time. After all, what company wouldn't make their product available to half of their "home town"?

 

I hope they hire back some of the employees as well. I have a good friend who was the manager of one of the NKY stores and she absolutley loved her job and she got a whole 3 days notice that she was losing it.

I didn't have a very long conversation with Rich about it, but from what he said, they're trying to work things out so very little will change with the stores other than the owners. If that's the case, I'd say she's got a pretty decent chance of being hired back. That's pretty crappy that your friend only received 3 days notice though...the NKY franchisees knew they were being shut down upwards of 2 1/2 weeks ago.

 

It could be a sticky situation for Graeter's to re-open in the same locations though. Franchisors generally have a "we reserve the right to revoke or cancel" clause written into their franchise agreements, but the problem after that is the fact that the frachisees still own the physical building where the stores had previously been. In order to re-open in the same locations, Graeter's is still going to have to come to some kind of an agreement, lease or sale of the buildings with the folks they just revoked franchise rights from. Could get a little messy.

You could just have schwan's ice cream delivered to you and it is only 4.99 for a 56 oz or 9.99 a gallon. Very high quality ice cream with top 3 ingrediants being cream, buttermilk and milk.

Since Graeters doesn't like Kentucky anymore, we should bring Jeni's down from Columbus. I'd invest if they opened in the old Greaters locations.
