There is no such thing as a moral victory. The same person that coined that phrase has got to be the same person that came up with the participation trophy and "everybody is a winner" phrase. I didn't hear anyone congratulating any of the kids on a great moral victory after the game. These young men went into the game believing that they were going to win and didn't want to settle for anything less than winning a state championship. This obviously didn't happen, Ryle didn't reach their ultimate goal so they were completely disappointed... not happy with a "moral victory."

Lost a faster one from last year to this year. Get your facts straight.

 

I love it when the uninformed pontificate re Trinity! One lady at the game asked me how many players had full rides? She was apologetic afterwards when I explained the third party anonymous need based aid system.

They also have one other common thread that you chose to ignore. They all accept tuition paying students. Please don't under estimate that fact. It's powerful.

 

Beechwood and Highlands both accept tuition students; all the private schools' students pay tuition; this is a foolish decision by Boone County Schools, not the rest of the state!!!

I'll bet that they never lost a 4.5 40 due to tuition

I am tired of folks trying to make the excuse about Trinity winning because of numbers and money. If you look at Boone County Schools you could make the same arguments about Ryle here in Boone County. If I'm not mistaken they are the biggest high school and they draw from several middle schools in the area. Not to mention they get all of the Gray Middle School kids, which is the biggest middle school in Boone County. Also, they get are privileged to more than most of the other high schools need I mention turf field, a ship that shoots off canons when they score. So would we say that's why they run the table in Boone County football?

My fault Hump I didn't meant to attach it to your comment...About the turf, If I'm not mistaken, turf was offered to be put in for one school in Boone county, it did not happen because if one had it, then all others had to have it also.

It didn't happen because the school that the donation was going towards didn't have enough money to get the entire operation complete. The donation was not going to cover the whole thing, and the board wasn't going to make up the difference. Ryle funraised the entire project.

2) Trinity has lost MANY good/fast players that either couldn't afford or wouldn't pay tuition. The uninformed will never understand, and that's OK. Does no one think that Seneca's QB or Ballard's Parker would be at T if somehow tuition was not an issue?

3) The officiating WAS horrible. The calls against T were fine - no complaints; but the calls overlooked on Ryle and the administration of the game (mostly when to start the play clock) were abysmal. They did do an OK job of separating players, especially Elliott, on several occasions. I don't think they were biased, just of lower quality than in the first few rounds.

4) The 2010 Ryle team is HANDS DOWN better than 2006. This year's Ryle team may be the #2 team in the entire state (HHS?). In 2006 they MAY have been the 15th or 20th best team in the state (They certainly were not in the top 5 in 4-A).

5) Ryle just needs to keep doing what they are doing and continue to get better at it. They have a fine program.

Maybe, maybe not. Ryle needs to clearly and honestly establish what the performance gaps are between themselves and Trinity/X, and make a realistic plan to address each one. Just doing more of the same may happen to address all the gaps, but my guess is most likely it doesn't. I think it's great that Ryle has been benchmarking themselves off Highlands, but it's not HHS they need to beat for a championship.

 

"Realistic" is key here also. The solution for Trinity/X in many cases won't be the best solution for Ryle.

At the beginning of the season, their entire plan should focus on "How are we going to beat Trinity or X?" Not Highlands, CovCath, or Dixie, but how are we going to beat the Big 2 and then work all season to perfect that system!

That's all any team can expect to earn playing Trinity the next couple of years. Looking at #20,21 & 22!

Simon Kenton last year probably had the best team out of all the 6A teams in NKY this past decade. Ryle is doing a great job building their program, and with what they do they can beat a lot of teams. However what Mr. Reality said is correct, they need to figure out what they need to do to beat a program like Trinity.

 

I mentioned this in another thread, and people did like it. However their offensive philosophy of running the ball works great up here in NKY, and against some other teams. However when you play a team like a Trinity, you really can't be one diminsional like they are. Trinity is to good of a team, to only give them one thing to really have to prepare for to stop. That is why Ryle only had 100 yards offense with 5 minutes left in the game. You have to be able to do both to have a chance against them. That is why Simon Kenton last year, had the best chance at beating those top programs. They came up short to, however they gave the eventual State Champions a run for their money and had a chance to win it on their last possession.
