November 25, 201015 yr Folks, the wife is heading out for the sales tomorrow and one of the things on her list is a new tv for our nephew. I know nothing about these new style tvs, but I want it to be around 42 inches. I'm not familier with LED, LCD, or plasma. So can anybody please give me some brands, types, and recommendations to help her out. he will be using his playstation and Wii on it. thanks in advance for the help.
November 25, 201015 yr LED is probably the best picture. I know Sharp makes nice LED TVs. If I was going plasma, which I think gives the 2nd best picture, I'd go Samsung. LCD is still a great picture but it would be my last choice, look at Sony or Samsung. If you want to spend a little extra money go 1080 p for the Playstation because it has blu-ray. For the price, you can get a plasma 1080p 50 inch at best buy for $700, I think which is a great deal. If you don't want it that big, I'm sure they have better deals.
November 25, 201015 yr Target has a 42" on sale for around $300. A Westinghouse brand, not sure of the details but "Thats a low price".
November 25, 201015 yr Walmart has a emerson 42" tv LCD HD for sale at $398 on black Friday. You can go to Walmart.com and get a 42" RCA plasma televison for $399. You can have it shipped to your home for free right now.
November 25, 201015 yr Best Buy has a 46" 1080p LCD HDTV Samsung 120 HZ for $797. It is an amazing deal. LED TV's are nice, but they're going to cost you a little more and for the price I don't think it is worth it. As for the difference between Plasma and LCD...I like LCD more. i've seen both and I think my LCD has a much better picture than the samsung 1080p Plasma I've watched. You have a lucky nephew btw. I wish my aunt/uncle would have gotten me a new TV!
November 25, 201015 yr For price and picture, plasma is the best way to go. As for 720 or 1080, read this and decide for yourself.
November 25, 201015 yr I believe it was in Kmart's ad that I saw a 46" Panasonic plasma TV (720p, not 1080p) for $499, which is a very good price. Also saw a 50" Zenith plasma (also 720p) for $499, which is a crazy price, at Sears (I think). Personally, if you can find a great price on a 1080, I'd do it. I have 4 larger screen TV's (46" or over) and I can definitely see a difference with the 1080 while playing Blue Ray discs. But I wouldn't let it dissuade you if you can steal a 720.
November 25, 201015 yr Target has a 42" on sale for around $300. A Westinghouse brand, not sure of the details but "Thats a low price". I'm going to look this up. I need another new TV like I need another hole in my head, but this is a stupid low price.

They have improved them quite a bit in the past few years.

November 25, 201015 yr The best TV for the right price is Vizo I have had mine for 3 years now and its great I am about to buy another one for video games.
November 25, 201015 yr We have 42" LCD Sony's. The picture is great and they are also used for video games and Wii.
November 25, 201015 yr We have 42" LCD Sony's. The picture is great and they are also used for video games and Wii. Certainly not going to wrong with a Sony. Nice products. Of course, you're also not going to get the same price as some of the deals listed above.
November 25, 201015 yr Plasma has the best picture, period. LCD's are catching up, but viewing angle and black levels are still not close. It has also been documented that the LED's are fading over a faster time than many thought, reducing picture quality faster.
