The funny thing about high school football is that talent is just a small part of winning and loosing. The outcome of the game can be determined just on the pure will to win. HC did have more talent last year, no doubt about it. The difference between last year and this year is that HC works well together. This game will be determined on the pure will to win. Heart wins in this game!

I think HC has the superior talent; now if they can put it together on the big stage.

No Way!

I believe you're delusional or just a downright homer. There is no way HC is even close in talent level. Dulder and Big Coach, you two may be as delusional as Ets Factor. HC has never had the talent level of NCC. I'm not a big fan of the offense that NCC runs. With their size up front and their ability to run the football with Kelly and Kane and Hightchew, I can think of a few different offenses that would be much more productive.

NCC 35

HC 14

I would expect Coach Wagner to bring significantly more pressure in this game. I think Jasper and Fuller are very good receivers, but I think they are best on deep passes. Arlinghaus is not a bad runner, but he is much more dangerous as a thrower. If they can force him to run, I think that will be an advantage for NewCath.

On the flip side you want to keep Hitghchew in the pocket. He is much more dangerous as a passer and a runner outside of the pocket.

I predict a close game thru 3 quarters with NewCath pulling away in the 4th.

Newcath 38 HC 21.

Everyone knows this is going to be a shootout, so the QB in a pass happy Indian offense, is pretty vital and is the prime athlete on the field; so that is a pretty big asset. HC's wide outs (as you mentioned) are better. I just think in this kind of game those groups of players are the best things a team can have because big plays are going to fuel this game. NCC has Kelly and the kid is a stud. I think he is the equalizer in this one. Hightchew will probably be less than effective if he's not running the ball. But, nonetheless, each team has the players to win the game..

The big thing being overlooked is that many of you are getting caught up in believing that having more talented skill position players is what makes a team superior overall. As I've mentioned earlier, NewCath has beaten HC almost every year on the lines and on the sideline. NewCath's lines are a HUGE part of NewCath's success, evidenced by NewCath putting up 378 rushing yards on HC earlier this season. Additionally, for NewCath's offense I would take Hitchew over Arlinghaus. For the spread, then I take Arlinghaus. I don't find either to be superior to the other for what their offensive philosophy asks them to do.

In the previous meeting, NewCath took away HC's lead receiver. As a result, HC's running back was able to have a huge game. It's pick your poison. That being said, if you had to ask me whether I would prefer to have superior line play, or wide receiver play, I'd go w/ line play.

I love NewCath's offense. I like how many different looks they give teams.

I believe that NCC is overall more talented, but to say that HC is not even close to them on talent is a bit of a stretch.

I agree w/ that.

Good argument. Care to elaborate?

Just my opinion based on seeing both teams in action. The 3 common opponents listed in this thread does not really help. 2 of the 3 were blowouts so the 1's probably rested much of the game. Also, comparing the BW games is apples to oranges considering it was the 3rd week and 10th week of the season. Plus, Vocke was out much of the game against HC. When he went down, BW was a total mess because they didn't seem to have a plan B.

As I said earlier, the late season loss to a rival has NCC in a different mindset because they know they can be beaten. I know Bred fans were highly upset after the BW game, but it just might have been a blessing in disquise because they lived to fight another day.

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not but it's hard to believe this years' seniors of Holy Cross didn't win a game their frosh year.

That's interesting....contrast that with the expectations of last year's seniors at Holy Cross who lost in the 2nd round to DeSales...that group was undefeated champs as freshmen.

This is what has confused me about HC for years, how they play their talent. Last year you had Walker, who was an exceptional athlete but a below average passer. On the sidelines you have Arlinghaus who would be brought in to change things up. Why? Why not put Walker in space, maybe put him in the WildCat, and use him and Ronaker together out of the backfield? Now you have a QB who can throw and two of the better backs in 2A. Before that, Stone and Armstrong's senior year. They very rarely saw the field at the same time? Why? They were both dynamite. In the playoffs against NewCath, they were down at the half and went to Stone as their QB. He had a much stronger arm than the starting QB, and they even ran the option a couple of times w/ him and Armstrong. Funny thing happened and they made a comeback that fell short. I don't get how their coaches use their players.

I agree 100% and very good points. I think this was also an issue at Highlands when Willie was there as far as basketball goes. Playing upperclassmen, rather than your best 11 or 5 in terms of basketball.
