Jim Schue simply stated the truth. If Coach Cal were to suddendly leave UK for a NBA team, or another school a lot of UK fans that love him now, would hate him in no time, much in the way they do Pitino now. Like Jim said, the truth hurts. And this is coming for a huge UK fan.
November 14, 201015 yr But God help him if he leaves Kentucky the way he did Memphis St., or how Ricky left UK for Boston. Then his name is synonymous with mud in yours and most every other UK fan's eyes? Calipari left Memphis in great shape. He built the program & left them with a young, well-respected head coach who has a bright future. The vacated Final Four doesn't help much, but it doesn't change the fact that Calipari turned Memphis' program into a contender on the national scene. Regarding Pitino, how could anyone fault him for taking a job in the NBA with that much money and power? I don't particularly care for the way he lied to recruits when he had already put a down-payment on a house in the Boston area, but I suppose that's part of the job. If anyone blames Pitino for taking that job then they're just an idiot. Not much else you can say about that.

The topic is about if Cal is scum or not. Jim Schue pointed out that many UK fans would think he was scum if he left UK. Not off topic. For the record I don't think Cal is scum, and wouldn't if he left UK. I didn't feel that Pitino was scum when he went to Louisville, however my opinion of him has changed since the whole Sypher ordeal.

For the record I do not think Cal is scum and won't if he leaves UK, even if we get sanctions. I got called a hypocrite so I made this thread........

UK fans don't think Cal is scum for leaving Memphis just like Louisville fans don't think Pitino is scum for going there just like Bama fans don't think Saban is scum for leaving LSU or Miami; ND fans don't think Kelly is scum for the way he left Cincy, and on and on and on. The fans of schools that coaches leave will think the coaches are scum, but fans of the schools they go to will say he was doing what was best for him. I think Cal is as much scum as about 99% of college coaches, but Saban has always come off as a complete jerk to me, but a jerk who wins a LOT.
