I guess it's just the music I know best. There were some solid bands/artists in the 80's (late 70's) - Cars, AC/DC, Tom Petty, Huey Lewis, Boston, Y2, Police, Guns N Roses, Journey, Hall & Oates, Foreignor, REO, Pat Benetar, Aerosmith, John Mellencamp, Outfield, INXS, Genesis, etc.... - that sound a whole lot better than most of the garbage I hear kids playing these days.

AC/DC and Aerosmith I would consider as 70's more so than 80's as their best stuff was released then.

To be honest, both have been horrendous since the calendar turned to Jan. 1, 1980. But at least AC/DC has an excuse in that their lead singer died.

The only bands on there I can say I liked are EL&P, Kansas, and Alan Parsons. I'm not a fan of the Doors, but they're not a worst 50.

Heard "Point of No Return" this morning. No way Kansas is on the list.

Most of the "country" music you hear on the radio nowdays is as formulaic as any of the top 40 trash you hear being pumped out by all the American Idol and Disney Channel clowns.

 

Most songs start off with a cheesy electric Fender guitar lick - often times sampling and harkening back to an old folk song, southern ballad or battle hymn from days past. Then, in comes the singer with his references to his boots and/or cowboy hat, discussion of life on the farm, a reference to serving God (as understood by Christian Americans), talk about his "high school girl" and how crazy her dad was. After that comes the refrain, where the lyrics hint to how country folk know how to kick back and unwind like no one else - often involving references to cheap beer or whiskey, removal of the aforementioned boots as to relax, and an optional reference to kissing or making love to the same girl as was mentioned earlier in the song. Other optional reference points for lyrics include: pickup trucks, tractors, hunting, fishing, military service, tequila, horses, and high school sports.

It is tough for me to believe Live should be on that list.

There are some very bad artists out that are as far away from country music as some of those in this top 50. On the other hand some of the guys that get hammered on here are pretty decent and some have potential tot be country legends. Garth Brooks just sold out 5 or 6 shows for Nashville and I know he takes a beating on here. As far as creativity that could be said about almost any band or artist.
