I like this thread. It brings up names of the past and I love it. I think it is good to remember players and I'm really loving hearing about the players from Bellevue , Dayton, Lloyd and New. Cath. I remember some of those guys but I was really young at the time.:sssh::lol:

My brother is good friends with Jelani. Another good player from Lloyd was Billy Lyon he was 6'5 280 pounds and played middle linebacker. He played college ball at Marshall and played for the Green Bay Packers backing up Reggie White.

 

I was at Marshall when Billy was there and was really good friends with his wife in high school. He also spent some time with the Vikings after he left Green Bay. I was also best friends with Jelani's brother Jason growing up so I spent a lot of time at their house. Both were great guys...

I remember the schedule we played in the early '90s, and it was flat brutal. Lloyd with Jelani and Gilliam at QB. Beechwood with three 1000 yard backs: Berger, Johnson and Wulfeck and a stud QB who's name escapes my mind. Bellevue's loaded runner up team with Hissong and Kiefert. Then a nice district loaded with Highlands (Gallichio and Hoffman, Schlarman, Scarlotto, Bibb), CovCath with Wilson and a bunch of studs, and a stacked Holmes squad with Hayes.

 

I still remember when Holmes showed up to play us in '90. They get off the bus, and Alfonso Lewis actually bought a hotdog at the concession stand. We are out stretching at the 45 and Holmes proceeds to walk across the 50 to their benches, Lewis with a big old dog in his mouth, I couldn't believe it. I don't know how they fit that guy in a helmet, his head was squished into that leather. James Hayes proceeded to rush for about 250 and I believe he had at least three TDs over 60 yards. We were so slow that he could have ran backwards for 200. I still remember coach Odom putting in an unbalanced formation for the Lloyd game, he named it the Jugg package, and they were simply Jugg right/left. Now I don't know if Lloyd had a defensive package with the same name or they had our playbook but everytime we called Jugg Right he would yell Jugg Left and everytime we ran it left he called it right. He was in our backfield all night long.

No, it wasn't Hergot. He also played LB, and was very tough, I think he played at Centre. I can't believe I can't remember his name. 15 minutes later and I believe his first name was Craig.

Yes, Kevin's brother Greg played at Beechwood in the mid to late 90's when they won like 6 state championships in a row. Excellent QB who later played at UC I believe and now is the Offensive Coordinator at Beechwood.

 

The QB you are thinking of NeerFan is Craig Wilmhoff. He was a very good QB who was tough as nails.
