Menetry and the human bowling ball George Duvall were a lot of fun to watch. I'll go back to my Lloyd roots and add Jelani Brandon...

 

I watched him from the sidelines in '91 against NewCath. NewCath had just returned a KO for a TD, and Brandon took the next one right back. He had a TD reception as well. I also like Sheffield. People wonder why Lloyd isn't as good as in years past, they don't have any Jelani Brandon's, Nick Gregorys, or Sheffields flying around like they once had. That's a big part of it.

Holmes has had a lot of very good athletes come through over the years:

 

Brandent Englemon QB/DB- Holmes 03 (Started FS at Michigan)

James "Meechie" Jackson LB- Holmes 02 (Played at Louisville then finished at Murray St after a few injuries)

Antwan Curry WR/DB- Holmes 99-00?? (Had 7 or 8 kick returns his senior year)

Sid Rice RB/WR/DB/LB- Holmes 99-00??

Jamarcus White WR/DB- Holmes 99-00??

Brian Ferguson QB- Holmes 98?? (I believe he was recruited by Florida St but he ended up not going for whatever reason)

 

Others that come to mind from Holmes are Marco Hallman (RB/DB), Jerry 'Stretch' Weaver (WR), and I believe they had another really good Rb in the early-mid 90's but can't think of his name.

 

That Holmes team in 2002 was absolutely loaded with talent. I believe they lost to Highlands that year 35-7 but beat them every which way except for on the scoreboard.

 

Whatever happened to Butter? If you played in the Middle School League in '92 and '93, you knew who butter was. He broke his wrist and didn't play the first half of the championship game against Highlands in '93. The Birds were up 28-0 at the half. He came in and the final score was 42-28 (or there abouts), he scored 4 second half TDs in 12 minutes of play.

How about those Boone Co teams in the mid to late 80's with the power running game. Matt Branham (UK), Tony Law, John Ransdell, Phil Dinn and there was another running back on that squad that was very good. They rean the wishbone I think and Owen Hauck was the coach.

 

CovCath had a very good team in 88' with Paul Hladon at QB. Mike Woolf at LB.

Berger and Brandon were very good. I'm going back pretty far now. The Allen bros from newcath,Jurgens Schweinefus before his knee injury,Sandfoss,Gabbard Messmer. Holmes Turney.Camels,Raleigh,Shepherd.Bellevue,Francis.

John Madrick (Ron Madrick's son) also comes to mind when thinking of Holmes. I believe he graduated in the mid 90's and then went on to Middle Tennessee St. From the films I've seen, he was quite impressive.

 

I'm having trouble remembering the guy's name that played RB for Holmes in the early to mid 90's. He holds several of the school records but his name escapes me. May be the guy you're talking about.

My brother is good friends with Jelani. Another good player from Lloyd was Billy Lyon he was 6'5 280 pounds and played middle linebacker. He played college ball at Marshall and played for the Green Bay Packers backing up Reggie White.

Not sure who butter is but I remember Alphonso Lewis he was 6'4 320 pounds and played for Holmes in the early 90's.

'98. I believe that you are talking about Fred Conrad, he was older than Butter.

Madden was a great player I used to be pretty good friends with him. Daniel Morrison was a good running back for SK.
