What has happened to Dayton?

Featured Replies

I was told about Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and that my government knew what was best for me.

Seriously, why would Highlands need kids from Dayton?

I have an employee who lives in Dayton, and from what he's told me, dennis12b is exactly right. Dayton public schools have a reciprocity agreement with the Ft. Thomas school district, where any family choosing to do so can elect to have their tax money applied towards tuition in the Ft. Thomas school district (Highlands) instead of towards the Dayton school district. Apparently that still does leave a certain amount of "tuition" to be paid by any Dayton families in order to attend Highlands, but from what I hear, that is an option for residents of Dayton.

I have to admit, I have no idea why one school district would willingly allow their money to be siphoned into another school district, but I guess if that's what they want to do, they can. :idunno:

If this is true, I'd say it goes a long way toward answering the question initially asked by this thread.

Unless Jason Skirvin is reincarnated as a 15 year old in Dayton HS, they will be a poor team forever.

That would help a lot of teams. But NKY needs him to keep wearing the zebra shirt.

I don't think coaching is as big an issue as people think. 6 starters out and a few bad apples have turned that barrel.

The new Fischer Homes Subdivision off the Chateau Ridge Subdivision is the only subdivision that has any sort of tuition deal with the City of Fort Thomas. Fischer Homes like every other buider is trying to sell new homes. This an incentive they offer. Keep in mind another Fischer subdivision in the city limits of Fort Thomas is in the Campbell County district. Homes sell in this location better without this incentive. Fischer has a deal with the Dayton subdivision and Fort Thomas Schools to reduce tuition by 50% if they live in this subdivision. It is not City wide. Not many homes exist in this subdivsion. I am not certain, but I don't believe Highlands has any kids currently playing from this subdivision. I think they might have about 20 homes in this subdivision. Most kids from this area historically have gone to New Cath.

I also know that the first varsity job Walton's Jeff Barth applied for was the Dayton job. This was when Lickert left and before the Walton job was ever open. They decided to stay "in house". Just sayin'.......

I second, third, fourth and fifth that motion. GD72

You might want to ask Dale that question. See Josh Quillen, starter as soph on last season's state champion team that was loaded in the SR class.

I feel bad for Coach Deaton. The guy has the heart of a Lion, seems like there's alot of speculation in this thread. Wish we had the facts. I'm sure it will surface soon or later.

I believe that you have a vested interest in Mr. Skirvin, correct Greendevil 72? :)

Skirvin was not only one of the best players ever of Dayton, he was one of the best in the state. It was truly a privilege having the chance to be on the same team with him and to watch him another season after I graduated.

Greg Kleete was Dayton's best player in football

Dayton has an interesting history that goes back much further that Mr. Kleete in the '80s. John Wooden was originally hired as football, baseball and basketball coach. Dayton had solid teams in the 50's, 60's and 70's. State champions in the late '60's and they beat the might cake eaters in the '60's as well.

Do you guys think Lickert left for Holmes because Dayton was a good job or had talent coming up?? I doubt it. Holmes is not a Mecca as far as football goes. Dayton is down, leave the coach alone tell your kids to work hard, and better luck next year.
