Can't fill schedule = May have to play good teams

Featured Replies

Suck it up man. So cowardly.

All these teams that say "can't fill my schedule" mean we "can't find cupcakes and may have to play good local teams"

Johnson central....lots of teams over near ashland...plenty of local teams around you...just look for local high schools and convince them to play...You are supposed to be an up and coming program...CHALLENGE highlands don't RUN from them

Perry Central...why not play Hazard instead of or in addition to knott county...Hazard is in your county!!! Don't throw three other teams under the Bus (NL, SL, Whitley). Why DOUBLE their travel time (3 schools) when you could play in your county? You can make a schedule...heck, you have a guaranteed playoff birth!!! Scared of the local teams?

Simon Kenton...you are supposed to be an "elite" public school program...lexington is not that far (.05 miles less...seriously?) That is about as petty as it gets. And to throw two other teams under the bus? Why force a struggling Ohio County team (1 win, 3 years!?!~?!~?!) to play even BETTER competition so YOU can be happy....

Bell County....since when is where you play play in the semifinals a problem with scheduling haha... YOU ARE IN THE SEMI FINALS!~!!!!!...Your district is a mountain district and you are in it with Corbin....Seems you'd be chomping at the bit instead of looking at the semifinal game....seriously?

What ever happened to just playing whats in front of you....anyone can make a a shedule...sure it may not be easy games, but when you are a GOOD program you should play the GOOD teams.

I love Corbin's repsponse... Check the box, move on, play.

Everyone just needs to DEAL WITH IT

Just play...jeez

And if you mention another team in your response....well you should be forced to play away games vs Trinity, St. X and Highlands and not be allowed to bring your starters....Twice a year.

good post, but you left out Lex Cath.

I am sure if you were an administrator for any of the schools mentioned you would be worried about the expense of travel and lost revenue due to distance. Football programs and revenue from it finance most of the sports at the HS level. Most programs barely have enough funds to equip its players and pay for travel. To a "casual" observer it may look simple but remember there is always more to the story.

Casual or no, this is a who to play issue. Take the Perry example. There are teams right there to play in the county. Plenty of teams within 45 minutes of PCC. Why Force Whitley to drive further to get to the other district? or the Laurels? It would actually ADD to Perry's travel time!!! Their other district opponents would not change. I wonder if South being winless and North only having 2 wins had anything to do with it...hmmmmmmmmm Why not just suck it up and play Hazard, Breathitt or some closer schools.....

Take the simon kenton example...total difference of less than a mile? I'm sure that what...a dollar...that will save them over the year is REALLY the issue there. Come on....just go with it.

I think its also crazy to look so far ahead to the semi-finals for away games....i mean, there are other scenarios where you would play a closer team...that late, there are always people travelling long distances. Yes, Bell-PT is extreme, but sometimes things work out weird.

SOME examples are probably true....Western Hills seems to be....I mean they said "put us in a harder higher class /district" but these other examples are CLEARLY because they don't want to play highlands/local tougher schools.

It shouldn't change, its probably not going to change, its good the way it is. People are just going to have to suck it up and play local tougher competition.

I thought this was about scheduling, not the re-alignment.

Its not for Bell Co. Bell is looking at having to drive 2 to 3 hours to play Casey Co. and Wayne in their district who, no disrespect, but neither are near as good as Bell perennially. But that part is okay. The problem is in the region Bell will have to go to E'town or Central, which are very long trips, probably pushing 4 hrs on a bus. Then if Bell gets past that they may have to drive basically 6 hrs to Paducah Tilghman or Fort Campbell. Those are LONG trips!

I absolutely LOVE this post. I really don't care where my teams go...lace 'em up and PLAY.

Exactly. Play the games. Heck my school has trouble finding 1A teams to play, in fact, we don't even look for them anymore. We don't have any 2A teams in the area, so we schedule 3A, 4A, and 5A teams. We don't have any 6A teams in the area. We lose some, but win some of them as well. Play big. Build your program. Don't look for easy wins, heck anyone can win those and they don't generate revenue. Our biggest money games are versus a 3A team that proved to be a top 10 team (Russell) and a 5A team that ain't bad (Ashland) and a 4A in county game (Greenup County). Those are our money games. The games that are supposed to be easy wins are never big money games.

You act as if Bell would have to make these trips every year. The reality is they would only have to (at worse) make the trips every other year. But you don't hear Paducah Tilghman,Ft. Campbell, Etown, Central, etc. complaining about having to drive all the way to "the mountains". It's not all about Bell Co. and their little comfort zone of staying in the mountains.

That's one year, the next year, if Bell is able to get to the same games, those teams have to travel to Bell. 2 yrs of going one way and then 2 yrs the other.

Long trips for regional and sectional play should be expected. Did Bell apply to stay in 4A to combat this hardship?

I think this thread is going to get alot of attention!

Lots of school districts are going to a 60 mile rule for all sports. I know my district has it and I have to be factor that in when scheduling. Is it important enough game to ask my boosters to pay $100-$200 or more to drive a bus there.

Meaning you either CANNOT schedule a game beyond 60 miles or your boosters have to pay for each mile beyond the 60 miles. Not sure of the cost per mile but I believe it is over a dollar a mile.

Lots of school districts are going to a 60 mile rule for all sports.
Then tell those districts (the PEOPLE who came up with that ridiculous rule) to sit down, make calls, and come up with a schedule for teams to play.

Perry Central and Hazard are not allowed to play! Their games got out of control and the powers that be decided it would be best if they didn't play. And they have to play district games which consist of north laurel and Whitley, that's somewhat of a problem Harlan County's closest district game is either Letcher Central or Perry Central.
