Western Ky 6a to NKy 6a?

 

NKY 6A is in the East side of the bracket while WKY 6A is on the West side of the bracket so the 2 won't meet until the finals (as it should be).

Beechwood and Mayfield have done that drive many times. It is closer for Beechwood to drive to Pittsburgh, PA than it is to Mayfield. You've never heard them complain.

If you mapquest it, it takes 4 hours and 50 minutes from Beechwood to Mayfield.

If you mapquest Bell County HS to Paducah Tilghman it is 5 hours and 45 minutes. Thats almost an hour farther to drive.

You complaint about getting out of school is irrelevant asa well as the state semi finals are on Thanksgiving weekend. Again, you would only have to make the trip every other year and that is ONLY if you make it that far.

Name me a team or coach who wouldnt drive 5 hours to be in the semi-finals.

That is a good point about Thanksgiving Weekend. But here is the thing. If this is geographry-based then it makes absolutely no sense to have Bell Co. going west.

Geography is only relevant when considering placement in class, not whether or not you are in semi state 1 or 2.

Out of curiosity - and this is a serious question - what message does all the whining, crying and begging send to the players, coaches and the fans?

It occurs to me that some of the folks that probably cried about Trinity and St. Xavier's stranglehold on the old Class 4A championship got what they wanted - more classes.

 

Result? Six classes, and as a consequence, longer travel distances - especially deep in the playoffs. I sure hope that the folks that are crying about increased travel time aren't the same folks that cried about T and X. That would be both sad and ironic.

 

As someone said - check the box and play the games. Don't send a message to your team that you aren't good enough to overcome a long bus ride in the state semifinal game. As someone else said - what coach wouldn't welcome a long bus ride to play in a state semi-final?

You hit the nail on the head, and I apologize for the rant. You brought us back to the point of the thread.

So which has priority - school rules to control expenses or KHSAA 'tournament' rules? Is KHSAA working with the schools to address this likely conflict in directions - physically larger districts in times of shrinking travel capability? If gas goes to $4 a gallon or higher, does the 60 miles turning into 45 miles?

 

The fact is that going from 4 to 6 classes is costing this state's school some serious money. And now the the forced restrictions on 1A and 6A are now creating even more situations that drive up travel expenses and cost.

 

Bigger classes mean closer schools and less worries about changing class structure.

 

I would venture to guess no change but more pressure on boosters to fundraise to cover the additional cost.

Has nothing to do with being good enough or not. It has to do with common sense. Like putting Bell Co. in a Western Ky region. That would be like putting Mason Co. in the 11th region in basketball. It makes no sense.

At Meade Co. our non district schedule is about as tough as it gets with the likes of Fern Creek, Ballard, John Hardin and Anderson County every year, We are lucky to come out with one win out of those. But the big picture is the district, we usually take our lumps early, but the last five are what count. With a win next week against an undefeated Central Hardin team we will have the home field advantage in the playoffs. You have to play good teams to be a good team and this dog ain't afraid to hunt!
