I am going to have to disagree with you here Clyde. The coaches played these teams the year before and know who has what coming back, including on the JV level. The coaches are out there playing other teams on the summer circuit. They see what other teams have before anyone else and they talk to other coaches. IMO there isn't a more informed pre season poll than a coaches poll.

I disagree, you will likely see sophomore Michael Beuter take over at PG for the Breds. Beuter might be the smartest player in the 9th Region this year and is deceptively quick. I would look for him to handle the point, Hightchew and Doyle at the 2, 3. Morse will likely be the 4 and Geisler the 5 or they may interchange. Geisler is probably more mobile than Morse so you may see him face the basket more this season.

 

The Breds problem will be depth. After this first 5 I really have no clue who will get minutes. They have solid sophomore in Nathan Grosser who could play some but outside of that not sure of their personnel.

 

Two key players you've failed to mention and both could easily start are Zach Ryan and Andy Miller. Zach is long 6'4" kid who can shoot the 3. Andy is a strong 6'2" and can get it done around the basket. Look for both of these guys to be a big key for NCC's success.

I was going to agree w/ you on Beuter. Hopefully Grant can get 3 more players out that can play quality minutes.

The nice thing about N. Ky.'s two champions is both Simon Kenton and Holmes were made up of hometown players. So it might be another 30 years unless some out of area transfers come in to a program.

Housley and Avery too. But actually, what does it matter, anyone has the option to go to any school they want as long as they follow the rules. Sometimes the move works out and sometimes it doesn't. I don't think there is a school in the state that doesn't have a transfer.

Just to correct this person who along with the rest of the people who :laugh:dislike Holmes! Jeremiah and Ricardo grew up going to school and playing ball in Covington, both were young men in a tough situation where they were forced to move in with an uncle in Cincinnati for 2 years as 8th and 9th graders. Situation was handled by the family and the boys moved back home. Covington is where they grew up and Covington is where they will always call home! Housely lived in Covington with Mom the entire time he was enrolled at Newport so get your facts straight!

Fair enough. We disagree. No way coaches know how other kids from JV have developed over the summer and how they will react on the big stage. I'm not saying they're not smart. I'm saying they simply don't have enough access to info.

I am not surprised the Cougars are ranked #1 in the coaches poll. They have size and some good guards as well as a fine coach. How long has it been since someone other than Holmes was ranked pre-season #1?

I have no problem with transfers, I was refering to the statement about home grown boys (NKY).

I'm still somewhat torn on this.

 

Knowing the upperclassmen on this year's team personally and how they played against their own age group, I know that they have the potential and talent to be very good. Also throw in an extremely talented sophomore class, and you have the makings of a better year than most are expecting.

 

On the other hand, I've spoke with several people who are closer to the Holmes' program than myself and see these kids everyday and they've said that my assumptions that Holmes will be better than average this year might be a stretch.

 

Only time will tell though. I do know this...watching Holmes bring back that fullcourt press the entire game sure will be fun to watch with all the athletes they have.

I have personally coach watched these boys and coached many of these boys over the years. They have some great athletes, time will tell how the do this year. I just think they have a lot to prove. They lost the core of their team the last 4 years and I believe we are kidding ourselves if you think they will not have a down year after loosing so much talent.
