Lets see, kid attends hs, makes the basketball team, then gets kicked off said basketball team, then wants to transfer to another school and of course it isn't due to wanting to play basketball.

 

Honestly if the move was made prior to getting kicked off the team, maybe just maybe I could buy into it but the move only coming after he was kicked off the team and less than a month later the family is moving?

 

I could care less if the entire family moves out of said city, if the KHSAA allows this move, then the KHSAA and the transfer rule is a bigger joke than I thought! No way is this anything more than a move to get him on a basketball team.

 

Even the KHSAA can read between the lines on this transfer attempt, if it indeed happens!

While I can understand where both of you are coming from, Kevon leaving Holmes shouldn't come as any surprise.

 

He was actually wanting to transfer out of Holmes during basketball season last year....him leaving Holmes and trying to enroll at Dixie has more to do with just basketball and I'll leave it at that as the KID'S personal life is nobody's business on here.

I believe the question was when was the last time Holmes wasn't preseason #1. Pretty sure Holmes was preseason #1 in 07, despite the fact that Jefferson was sidelined with a broken leg. If I'm wrong, my apologies in advance.

 

As far as the 07 season goes, that region championship game was the first game of the year that Holmes had all of their players healthy. (Jefferson, Rice, Hill, Henderson, Nelson)

 

If my memory serves me correctly, they lost to Covcath by just 4 with their jv team plus Hill and Henderson. (?)

 

Jefferson was hurt until February. Rice, Henderson, and a few others were suspended mid season for an incident. And I believe Holmes was without a player or two in the district championship as well.

 

Who knows what would've happened in those other games, but I like Holmes' chances in those other two losses if they have Hill, Rice, Jefferson, and Henderson all 4 on the court at the same time like they did in the region championship.

 

And if I recall correctly, none of these teams ended up #1 in the final NKY Poll?

Conveniently because he is not welcome on Booher's team he decides now is the time. Heck I dont even know if he is enrolling at Dixie, he may not have for all I know.

I'm not in the business of talking about kids personalities on and off the court but let's just say that Coach Henley, Kevon, and Kevon' father didn't exactly see eye to eye last year for multiple reasons.

 

If Kevon does indeed end up at Dixie, did basketball play some sort of role? Sure. But I can say that Kevon knows if he transfers there's a chance he won't be eligible and he understands that. He simply wants to get out of the Holmes schooling system...even if that means not playing basketball.

 

Again, there's a lot more to the story that you won't understand unless you know some of the things that went on last year as well. I'll leave it at that.

AS of Monday morning around 9:30 am, Kevon wasn't enrolled at Dixie.

 

From all that I've heard, don't expect to see Rice in uniform anywhere in nky this year.

 

His best chance at being able to play is going across the river, IMO.

Morse is a big kid but your right after Morse and Geisler are gone they are very small.

 

I understand Morse is gone for the year with a knee injury. If that's true NCC will have their hands full with some bigger teams.

I see Highlands as a 9th and 8th pick in these polls. is this a close to the top 8 and 9? Or rather a distant 8 and 9? Will the Birds be regional contenders or stuggle to get out of the district this season. They are in what, an 8 or 9 year championship drought?

Dixie, Conner, and Boone seem to be in the tier 1 category with teams like Highlands, Covcath, Holmes, Ryle, and maybe Holy Cross falling in the tier 2 category. Not much separates #1 from #8 this year. Should be a lot of good basketball in the 9th region.

Newcath was already going to be small with Morse....without him their depth in the front court will be thin, to say the least.

Coach Flynn feels they can sneak up on some teams and playing in a weak district helps them get a legitimate shot at the 9th Tourney yearly. This year shouldnt be any different unless they get the same draw as last year with NCC on their side in a loser stays home scenario. NCC will be tough but the Birds legitimately could win as well. I would expect to see NCC/Highlands in the district finals another few years in a row. No disrespect to Newport/Dayton or Bellevue but the future looks much brighter in Ft. Thomas.

 

Towles 6'5, Stewart 6'6 and Nick True 6'5 will be a formidable frontline once January hits and the footballers get their basketball legs. Crowley is a slashing scorer who can get to the rim and Egan is a deadeye shooter. If Al Dean can provide a spark at the point guard position and some of the younger role players can come off the bench and utilize their athleticism then they will be a team to not take lightly. On paper they may not be as legit as the Teir 1 teams but in the end they will be right in the hunt come Feb. They have a pretty tough schedule as well which should bode well for them.

I agree Q...last year's team was loaded and expectations were high. Injuries, etc played a role in things not quite working out.

Maybe just the opposite this year..... I think this year's team will fly under the radar somewhat but should be able to put a solid 5 on the court

and if they can overcome depth problems, who knows what will happen by the end of the year.

If I root for Highlands I'm rooting for a very strong defensive effort. There's not a lot of scoring with this group. Athletes and size, yes. They need to revert to "Willie ball."

I agree....as Jv'ers, several in this group had trouble scoring with consistency last year.

 

They'll need Stewart to give them 15-20 and 8-12 every night if they're going to be successful.

 

Defensively, the Birds will be extremely tough.

Oh Lord dont say that. What you will see is a lot of pressing, transition offense and Mr. Stewart filling it up quite nicely. Expect him to average a double double this season.
