Track the Reds (2nd Half, Week 12)

You don't want to give guys Saturday/Sunday off with off days coming up. That'd be a great idea to not face live pitching in a game for 4 days in a row....

So all the starters are playing tonight. One day of rest and they're all healed up. I never said to give everyone off Saturday and Sunday. You guys are killing me. The best case scenario was to get the 2 seed. They needed 3 runs last night to keep that a possibility, and might have only needed 2 if Valaika tries to get the runner at the plate right away. Could 4 guys have taken off yesterday and 4 taken off today and it not have been the same thing?

If they can't go 4-1 at home against Houston and Milwaukee who have nothing to play for why do you want to play in Philly so bad?

Rest does wonders. If Rolen and BP aren't hitting, they don't have a chance against anybody. It's obvious that Rolen is exhausted and BP could use some time off to get his hand right.

Nothing to play for? I'm sure the young guys they are throwing out there don't think that. They're trying to prove themselves.

If you didn't know, Houston has been one of the better teams in the league the last 2 months. And Milwaukee has an offense that can put up 8 runs easily, especially in GABP. It'd be a shame if you tried to get the 2 seed and didn't get anybody rest leading to a sweep in the first round of the playoffs.

It's pretty doubtful IMO that Rolen and Cabrera play tonight. BP will either get today or tomorrow off to I'd imagine.

That best case scenario was pretty unlikely no matter who they ran out there. You just don't realize that.

So we're afraid of Houston and Milwaukee at home, but because guys got rested yesterday they are ready for Philly on the road?

It will be a bigger shame if they finish tied w/ SF and Philly runs through them while SF handles an Atlanta team that struggles mightily on the road. I like that you keep leaving out the fact there is more time than just yesterday to get rest and other ways to do it than have all 8 starters plus Cairo and the backup catcher sit the same game.

I'm fully aware that there's more time than yesterday to get rest. And Dusty will rest guys on those days too. How much better is this lineup than the one they ran out yesterday?

Stubbs

Phillips

Votto

Francisco/Cairo

Nix

Bloomquist

Hanigan

Janish

Cueto

Do you really think they win with that lineup either?

Way better. I'd love to have found out if they could score 2 or 3 runs. The point is even it was unlikely that SF went 3-2 or 2-3 they didn't all have to get the same day off. No matter what they weren't going to SF though IMO. That was the least likely scenario and that's how LRCW got this thing started.

So basically you think the lineup is 'way' better because they have 2 guys that have been hitting well in the lineup? It's going to take a lot more than those two guys to win a game...

Just for fun the Phillies are the favorites to win the World Series. SF is the 6th choice behind all the AL teams. The Reds are 7th choice and Atlanta is 8th.

Good thing they still play the games justnfor fun or the Reds never would have been the 1990 World Champions. :D

For the Reds to have caught the Giants it more than likely taken the Giants to have been swept by the Padres, and I think the wild card would have come out of the west in that scenario. Hudson and Lowe will both be going on 3 days rest again this weekend. I don't expect the results to be good for the Braves.

Since the Phillies have already clinched home field. Do you think they will be playing everyone of their normal starters for those three games? They won't be playing for anything, and since they have had injury problems this year. I do think they will rest some guys. So I think there is a good chance the results will be good for the Braves.

I agree with that, but it doesn't change the fact that the least likely scenario of going to SF is what you were afraid of and you said you would rather play Philly than SF. If the Reds passed SF they were home for Atlanta. If they didn't they were in Philly. At SF was the longest of long shots.

I'm pretty sure he was mainly talking about going out west, which was more likely than hosting the Braves...

Phillips 4

Cairo 5

Votto 3

Gomes 7

Bruce 9

Stubbs 8

Hanigan 2

Janish 6

Arroyo 1

Can't say I like BP back in the leadoff spot. Put Stubbs up there and put BP in the 2 hole

I don't think BP should be playing at all. He keeps saying how he is playing hurry and whatever and now we have a week to rest him so lets do it.

No it wasn't. The Braves had the WC lead and are at home where they own the best home record in baseball. It was easier to conceive the Reds catching SF than SD catching Atlanta. Also, if SD caught Atlanta they'd have had to beat up on SF to do it making it even more likely for the Reds to catch SF.
