With the way the Reds have been playing recently, did you really expect that to happen? They were better off getting people rest and making a push in the playoffs. The Reds had their best or second best pitcher on the mound last night. If they would have played some regulars and lost and SF won couldn't they have rested guys tonight and all weekend? They gave up a game that could have mattered. Couldn't they try to win all 5 and see what happens? If they would have gone 5-0 and SF gone 3-2 wouldn't that have worked? If SF won 3 straight there would have been plenty if time for rest. Why did Cairo need rest? No matter what they were only going out West IF Atlanta choked not SF.

If Cincy caught SF and Atlanta was the WC the Reds hosted Atlanta. If SF stayed in front and Atlanta won the WC the Reds were going to Philly. Going west would have taken an epic collapse from Atlanta considering Hamels is the only big 3 pitcher from Philly getting any innings this weekend.

Also, since when is 2-5 with a 5.00 ERA in their last 10 games a team's best or 2nd best pitcher? They are off next Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and Saturday if they fininsh 3rd. There were 5 remaining games to get guys rest. They didn't have to rest every starter and Cairo. Bruce has had how many days off inthe last two months? Hanigan and Ramon Hernandez played all those games at the same time? He was pretty good last night. I'd have taken my chances on getting 3 runs with 4 regular starters.

Your comment about Cairo makes no sense at all. First you complain that the regulars don't play, now you're complaining that a backup doesn't play? Makes a lot of sense. The way the Reds starters have been swinging the bat, they were likely going 3-2. Which meant the Giants would have had to go 1-4 to get the #2 seed. There was about a zero percent chance of that happening. Guys all over the field are banged up, why not try to get them healthy before the postseason and see if they can put some runs on the board? If they continue to hit like they have it'll be a short series. Might as well get them as healthy as possible. The pitching will be fine, the hitting needed some time off. They got it, and some guys will get another day or two. Stop complaining.

If rest is so important for young guys is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday not enough rest? If the Reds would have won last night is it crazy to think they could have won tonight? Say SF wins last night, today, and tomorrow couldn't guys get a day off Saturday and/or Sunday in addition to half getting last night off and half today? If it didn't matter if they won or not why did they all enter the game? Did they all have to take off the same day? Is that a rule I wasn't aware of?
