Same here. I think they'd beat the Phillies more often in a 5 game series than they would having to go to SF or SD.

If given the choice I'd rather have to play Philly in a 5 game series as opposed to a 7 gamer...

 

I'd assume we'll see matchups of:

 

Game 1: Halladay vs. Arroyo

Game 2: Oswalt vs. Volquez

Game 3: Hamels vs. Wood

Game 4: Halladay vs. Cueto

Game 5: Oswalt vs. Arroyo

 

I'd rather see Homer out there than Wood, but with the large number of lefties in the Phillies lineup, it's almost a given Wood is going to get a start IMO.

Really? Being excited about the playoffs is one thing, but the Reds only advantage against Philly is 4th starter.

They have no advantage against the Giants 1st 4....I'd rather take my chances against Philly then having to travel to the West Coast. And, yes, that's what would happen because the only way they catch the Giants is if SD wins out and that would move either the Giants or SD to the wildcard, because you can't assume the Braves will just beat up on Philly the last 3 games.

Right, so with SF winning last night, it makes your point, if there is one, moot. The Reds would have had to win all 4 of their remaining games and hoped SF choked. Highly unlikely.

 

So the Reds knew the outcome of last nights SF game before it started? Would you rather be 2 or 3 back with 4 to go? What if by a small miracle Arizona would have won that game where they only allowed 3 runs last night? Is everyone forgetting that SD has a 10-5 record against SF?

You're doing a ton of assuming. Last nights SF or SD game wasn't played before the Louisville Bats took the field. It is very possible that SD beats SF two out of three and doesn't win the West or Wild card. To rather play the two time defending NL champs on the road than a SF team with no playoff experience is crazy to me.

Yes the Padres did beat up on the Giants earlier in the year when the Padres were playing well. The Giants just took 3 out of 4 from the Padres in San Diego a couple of weeks ago. Latos and Richard have really struggled down the stretch. Do you know the Reds record in San Francisco the past few years? The Giants terrorized the Reds pitching out west last month. I still say playing the Phillies on the east coast gives them a better chance than playing in San Fran.

Before yesterday the Reds would have had to go 4-1 with SF going 2-3 to get the #2 seed. Those are the facts.

 

With the way the Reds have been playing recently, did you really expect that to happen? They were better off getting people rest and making a push in the playoffs.
