These are backs I have either played against, played with, or saw play a considerable number of times in HS. I can't speak for anyone else since I wouldnt be giving them a fair shake, although I think this is one heckuva list and I doubt there are many much better then these.

The backs in bold are the ones, based on my experiences of either playing with or against them or watching them a number of times, that I consider the best.

IMHO the "best of the best" (and IMO that means the most complete back with regards to 1)speed 2)power 3)lateral movement 4)ability to carry a team 5)ability to take a pounding and tote the rock 30 times a game 6)how big they played in big games 7)statistics) is a tie between David Jones, Marty Reagan, and Shawn Robbins. Just my opinion though.

I also dont think you can talk about the best back in EKY without mentioning the only one to win Mr. Football, and that is Scotty Russell from Evarts.

Also, on a side note, IMHO Bram Hoover was the best Corbin back I have ever played against. I felt he was head and shoulders above Jarrod Lawson and Stephen Cook. Stephen Cook and Jarrod Lawson had the stats and remind me alot of one another as backs, but Bram Hoover reminds me of the three backs that I had listed as my "best of the best." He was HIGHLY underrated.

I can agree with those names you have listed. As for the top 5 I think you could change up each player based on the type of offense that you run.

As for Hoover, I've always considered him more of a wide reciever similar to Eric Blackwood at Corbin this past year. They both played wideout for the most part but would move to the backfield for certain situations. Bram was and still is one of the top if not the top all around athletes that I have seen in the state of Kentucky. He was definately the total package. He wasn't that big (5'11" 175) but had good speed, unbelievable strength (350 bench, 500 squat), and what set him apart from the others was his quickness and ability to stop on a dime to change directions. Good call on Hoover!

I promise you can say what you want HITMEN FOOTBALL is right, his stats would have been alot better.

The 02' team could have probably won 4A that year, best high school football team i have ever seen.

Did you not see the team that put them out of the playoffs then? They must have been better--

Did you close your eyes when Breathitt beat them 51-0 or are you pretending that game didn't happen. Cause I'm pretty sure if you get beat 51-0 then you couldn't have had the best team that you ever saw--unless like I said you had you eyes closed. ;)

:thumb: Bram was very very good. I agree... his quickness and lateral movement, as well as his unbelievable power is what set him apart.

Not too much knowledge if nobody even mentions Matt Slone-P-burg?

Anyone remember him? :creepy:

Indeed! :thumb: Maybe more than a few would just as soon forget he ever played against them or their team. ;)

I remember Matt Slone very well from playing against him, as well as watching him play. He was a good runningback. I wouldnt place him on my top list, but he does deserve menitioning.

True Redhound was calling Breathitt County the best team that he has ever seen. He said that they probably could have won 4A that year.

Bram turned down a baseball scholarship from EKU to go to Hollywood to try and break into the movie business.

That makes more sense, I thought he had blown a gasket or something--lol!

Henson was a great back. I played against him in the early 90's. Clay ran him as often as possible. But he was shut down big-time in the playoffs by Bell County pretty regularly.
