The Devil's special team play needs to step-up this week. Punt returns especially. Mental/fundamental mistakes can kill you at this juncture in the playoffs. Covering on-side kicks, protecting the football at all times; all of the little things have to be executed w/o error. I look for Russell to come out and play another physical game. The play calling these last couple of games has been superb. Hope the trend continues and we move on to the next level.

We had the "Drawing of the Straws" last night at the Auxiliary. I drew first, and got the short one again, so it looks like I'll be your liaison on championship weekend.

 

I've planned a day trip to Jucy's Barbecue, and Friday evening in front of the prison at LaGrange. They have a nice show on Fridays, as the prisoners come out to mow the lawns and trim the hedges for the final time before the heavy winter sets in.

I can only hope my Devils hold up their end...Shoot, that itinerary is worth making the trip that way regardless of football...Sitting around with the ladies auxiliary crocheting, with a belly full of BBQ, while the men do their work would certainly be the highlight of that weekend...Simply put, that's good livin' !!! :thumb:

I'll make sure you can get to the game. I live about 2 blocks from the one on Argillite Rd which is only about 2 miles from the field. I store alot of the football boosters stuff in the storage units right behind Giovannis. I'll give you a ride from the stdium to the pizza place and back if ya want. I took Henry counties bus drivers there last year. :thumb:

After reading 187 posts it is apparent most everyone in the eastern part of the state thinks Mercer can only run the ball, has an inferior defense and will get beat. If Russell thinks that they will see what Newport saw through the air. I see Mercer getting 200+ yards on the ground and 150+ yards by the passing game. Both teams are good, both coaches are good and prior opponents do not matter so the real factor will be which team wants it the most. Mercer gets the "wants it most" edge with fans from both sides walking to their cars saying "I sure didn't think that would happen."

Well I have to say this. No one, Including the 2 time state champs, have scored that many on Russell in at least 2 years. I think this will be a good ball game but Russells defense will not allow that many points to be scored on them.

Just had "the vision" - a look into the near-term future - and Mercer wins 14-13! Seems the Russell faithful were talking too much "pizza" and thinking too much "powerhouse" to give a serious thought that the Scotties just might get'em. Great win for Jaggers and the program! Congrats and good luck in next week's regional championship game!
