July 19, 201016 yr I think it would be nuts to fire a manager whose team is contending. However, I'm with EZ. I'm not convinced that Dusty qualifies as a good manager. Solid? Yes. Decent? Yes? Good or great? Can't see it yet.
July 19, 201016 yr How about Wood pitching 15 innings of 4 hit ball with 1 ER resulting in zero wins and one loss? Exhibit 48,723 as to why you NEVER look at a W/L record to determine if a pitcher is pitching well.
July 19, 201016 yr Are there many bad managers that have their team in contention? Not saying he's great but I'd think you'd have to at least give him good.
July 19, 201016 yr Are there many bad managers that have their team in contention? Not saying he's great but I'd think you'd have to at least give him good. Don't know. What's the old expression about a team will win 60 games no matter what, lose 60 games no matter what, and its the remaining 40 that the manager has an influence on? I'm not comfortable with Dusty in those 40.

July 19, 201016 yr Free agent reliever Jason Isringhausen said he has a tentative plan to audition for the Reds tomorrow. Isringhausen admitted it'd be weird to pitch for the Reds against the Cardinals this summer as the teams battle for the NL Central. Isringhausen's last appearance in the Majors came in June of 2009 with the Rays, after which he went down for Tommy John surgery. He said he's currently throwing three times a week and working on a changeup. He expects he'd need a couple of weeks in the minors to get ready.
July 19, 201016 yr Everyone needs bullpen help. Firing the Manager on a club that is in first place is ridiculous. We don't have a better option at SS and Cabrera brings more to the table that just things on the field. 2nd place.:thumb:

July 19, 201016 yr Author I agree with you and EZ. I agree with you and "you" and EZ. Dusty is not a good manager. A good guy, a guy the player's apparently like playing for, but not someone I want managing my team in a tight game with a lot on the line. There are times when teams win with poor managers or coaches. Hell, the Bengals won 10 games with a guy at the helm that makes you cringe at some of the things he does. The Reds may win 88 or 90 games with Baker calling the shots this year. It happens. I hope that they win a World Series with Baker, but some of his ludicrous thinking will make the path a lot tougher, even with all that terrific pitching. I would absolutely be tickled to death to see ole toothpick win a WS here, but odds are he will be run out of town before a trophy is raised on Fountain Square. Good guy... Poor manager.
July 19, 201016 yr Could we snag up Marmol from the Cubs? Did you see Marmol this weekend? He couldn't throw one in the ocean standing on the beach.
July 19, 201016 yr No way can Dusty be fired at this point in the season. This is Dusty's final year. Padres just gave there manager an extension. No word from management about extending Dusty, maybe there's a reason for that.
July 19, 201016 yr Did you see Marmol this weekend? He couldn't throw one in the ocean standing on the beach. HAHA no I didnt see him pitch. He has tons of talent though. Maybe a change of scenery would do him a load of good?
July 19, 201016 yr Personally I am getting tired of losing 1-0 games though. You all know who I blame 1-0 losses on. We know who you blame every loss on...
July 19, 201016 yr It's just a shame I didn't get on in time to comment on week 1 before they closed it. A great article on Dusty needing to be fired and why. I also noticed that several people thought maybe a squeeze was in order there in the 9th. Don't they know how stupid that is, you don't do that in the major leagues. Hahaha!! I'd love to know who thought it would have been a good idea squeeze in the 9th?
July 19, 201016 yr I'd love to know who thought it would have been a good idea squeeze in the 9th? Go back and look at last week's track the Red's thread, you'll see it.
