Votto's response after being asked about congratulating Byrd on his play:

 

"I don't like the Cubs. And I'm not going to pat anybody with a Cubs uniform on the back. But because he made that really cool play, it turned out to be a really cool experience. I'm really glad we got the win today."

 

Being that in today's professional sports you don't see this very much, and guys like Lebron who up with rivals, I love these comments by Votto. Just a guy who doesn't like his rival. I wish we saw more of this.

The guy on Yahoo made it sound like he was hating on Byrd himself. I love his competitiveness. Good for Votto. If Byrd played for the Red Sox or Angels or whoever else that wasn't in the NL Central, there would be no story here. It's nothing personal but the Yahoo writer made a huge deal out of nothing.

I could really care less, I love the comments and as BM said, the competitiveness. It would fire me up if I was a Reds player or even fan. I would much rather see this stuff go on instead of guys like Lebron. This is how it used to be and should be.

If they was not playing on the same team I could respect this but being they were I can't.

I don't like the Reds and I'm not going to pat Votto on the back for what he said. But he did say something pretty cool and the experience of reading the article was pretty cool too.

I'm a Votto fan but I think it's a little childish. Doesn't really change my feelings either way with him. Not that big of a deal IMO.

Wow^^^ the tradition of the All Star games is huge. This guy reminds me of Pete, but I think Pete respected the Game, and this guy is only hurting himself. The players going up to Derek and talking with him when he was hurting showed me some class. And we all need to have some class.
